I'm Toby, Designer/Animator, I make games. Soon, hopefully, that will be my paid profession. Whereas Design and Animation are separate and wonderful in their own rights, I also like to combine them, creating games where animation is a function of the design and core to the gameplay.

I'm inclined to think this is a better optimised, better supported version of CryEngine 2. Crytek are trying to compete with Unreal on the middleware front. I think its a good move. Adding in features that will extend its life over to the next generation (after this one!).

I'm very excited, CryEngine 2 is the best out there at the moment in terms of Editor, feature set, and rendering capability. So to see it expanded and opened up to console developers means that hopefully we wont get 1000 Unreal Engine 4 games next generation, like we have with this generation with Unreal Engine 3.

One more thing.. as this seems to be a venture into a fully supported cross platform middleware, the Editor and tools will hopefully be easier to use and work with more programs (i.e maya)

Well Deserved for Project Reality... solid Mod. I loved BF2 and project reality really tightened the team work in multiplayer, which is the real thrill.

Congrats all.

I'm a little puzzled by some of the choices, The raptor transfer seems like a nostagia map in theme. I've never played CoD4 :P so i duno what Bog is heh, I would echo that it seems too recent (indeed still being played) to be classed as "nostalgic" - thats just how I see it. Its kinda like making a Crysis map in FarCry2. But again.. congrats to the winners :)

Make a good enough mod and you too could be flying a B2 stealth bomber. Why settle for virtual bombs. We blow **** up for REAL! Its just like a game, only you die for real... yeaahh!

Wow... I play A LOOOT of games, I thought I owned alot... too many in fact! A fair few for most consoles and handhelds and a crap load for PC. I'm just guesstimating, but I dont think the total would stretch much beyond 100 if reaching 100 at all... so 250+ wtf?!

in truth the prototype shows very little of the true design potential of Lux. The negative light mechanic, for example, shown briefly in the demo has many other unique uses as a stand alone mechanic and integrated with others.

This vid shows a further mechanic, not in the prototype, and one possible use for it, but there are a plethora of other potential mechanics and uses in the 'design ether', some crazy, others plausible ;)

The camera placement in the mock up video is purely to show the puzzle mechanics, it wouldn't necessarily be the angle in game. However for certain sections, such as the block pushing section, there may well be a different camera angle to aid the player.

In what way do you think 1st person perspective inhibited the play experience in the current demo?

Congrats on obtaining an evaluation license! :) it would be fantastic if you were able to sell it, there should be more cryengine games out there. There's an over saturation of unreal 3.0.

Controversial... this entire topic is still very sensitive for a lot of people. I dunno if the ppl making this are from the UK or Ireland or not, but for ppl in the UK and Ireland its kinda similar to making a 911 mod for Americans.

I'll be interested to see how it turns out, but I do question the motives of using this kind of subject matter.

your right! interesting, the last update fixed a different bug related to these lights, but what you pointed out still occurs. Heh, I would have probably never come across that, just goes to show the importance of testing :P Thanks for the feedback! It'll be fixed in the next update. :)

Got a concept for a rather ambitious, and as far as i know unique mod project in the early stages. I've not really added much here since I joined, mainly coz I havn't been involved in using CryEngine, although I have been yearning to kick off a project.

It seems to be quite quiet around here. It would be good to get a forum added to the group.

So yeah, hopefully I'll be revealing a bit more about this project soon, and calling on some talent to help bring it to fruition :)

I'm intrigued, and a little confused. This game appears to be a First Person beat 'em up. Is it also an adventure game? Or is it a series of fights interspersed with cut scene story? I just feel the premise needs a bit more explanation. It looks fantastic btw.

Remember the Dinosaurs in Gunman Chronicles using the original Valve engine? ;) - which was actually a heavily modified quake engine.

anyway

I love this.. I just really love the direction you've taken with this game.. did I mention I Love it!

I have to say some chambers I couldn't even figure out what the hell I was supposed to do, others I knew the solution but the method to doing it was frustrating and took far too many attempts. I'm saying this as someone who has played a lot of map packs and mods of portal, so think about the people who haven't.

I look forward to the final release, some of the chambers need a fair bit of work, in both tweaking the layout and adding subtle hints.

I will also say that I was able to return back to previous chambers if I left a portal in one, I was then stuck, as all the doors are sealed. The portal nulling barrier didn't seems to close them. - specifically I went to the right first, completed this room but left an orange portal in it, then went to the left room fired a blue portal, thinking that I had access to both, and ended up back in the previous room.

Hope you can fix that, its probably a minor bug.

Good luck

Back before all this economic bollocks it was about 2 dollars to the pound which would make this very attractive.. its more like 1.4 to the pound now, and yet it would still be very much worth it.

Like Intense says, game entertainment in a cost to experience/length of time ratio are even now woefully undervalued in comparison to other media. When you consider what goes in to making a game like this, and the interactive experience you get from it.
