Vassalage sounds a bit like pyramid selling ?

As a vassle will you be able to 'sub-vassle' lands or will it be a strict 2 tier arrangement with everyone being lords or vassles? Am I right in assuming the 'sub-vassle' model?

If you can 'sub-vassle' (I really need to find a new term for that) the King at the top will own the land - and passes some land to his vassle the Duke who then in turn passes some land to his vassle the Earl etc. so now a Viscount is managing the Kings land on a day to day basis owing his allegiance to his lord the Earl.

Then the Duke turns out to be deviant - he runs off and marries the Kings pet penguin or somesuch, the King understandably upset wants all his land back - they can live in a happy Duke-Penguin idyll if they must but not on his land.

The Viscount is going to lose land he's managing well to a vengeful King he's never met due to the action of a deviant Duke he's never met.

Is this how it would work? It seems somewhat harsh.

(I'm thinking this isnt how it will work, but am interested to know what the setup will be)

Customisation & Cosmetics is a great way forward and has worked well in other games, but I've only see work in first person games; those where you own and invest in a character that you spend time running around being. Then you want to make yourself 'look good' by playing 'dress up barbie' to make yourself feel comfortable/impressive/scary/powerful.

I'm not sure how this will translate into turn based strategy - will I care that my castle/soldiers, that are functionally the same as everyone elses will look the same as everyone elses in the same way that I do care whether the sword that I am carrying is glowing with flaming runes and the size of a cricket bat?

Thraxas44 - - 5 comments @ FEUDUMS - The Anatomy of a Turn Based MMO

I like turn based games and play a lot of them. Mostly I play turn based in single player scenario / campaign games which work well, the downside being the stupidity of any AI & game designers building in artificial AI bonuses (let the AI cheat) to offset player intelligence.

One of the things that I find attractive about feudums is that it is MMO & turn based, if it works I can see myself spending a lot of time playing and pitting my skills with and against other players.
I have played turn based 'play by email' which can work but often leads to victory through last person to stop responding which is kind of hollow.

My concern would be if there was a need to log in every hour continually to take your turn over an extended period - while I like gaming I also have a life and am not going to schedule family time around playing a game.

You can also stack orders for multiple turns.

I guess this is the way you fit life in - scheudling the overnight & busy irl turns? How much of an advantage will this be to the every hour addict over the committed but casual gamer?

Ranked games will generally favour 10-60 minute Planning Phases

Does that mean the whole game is 10 hours long? 10 turns for a whole game dosent feel very long?

I love some of the ideas in this game, theres enough thats familiar that it feels comfortable but with enough new twists that it's something new

When comparing to games in a similar genre the graphics are nice, and fits nicely with the music to give a good atmosphere - I thought it interesting that the once youtube with no music felt far flatter than the rest.

I love the idea of gifting land in return for vasslage / alliance, I dont know how it will work in practice - it might be nice to give a friend a leg up into the game but beyond rl friends I'm interested to see how the social aspect will work ... for me the best online games get strangers working together as a team building personal and team loyalties.

I'm a little chilly on the name though - its sounds like baby feudalism - a portmanteau blend of feudal and diddums perhaps ...

I cant wait to see more details of the actual gameplay mechanics ...
- is there any game objective other than conquest & world domination?
- what will be the non-militaristic aspects to the game
... theres obviously some resource gathering element & levels of diplomacy
... will there be non-battle magic?
... will there be espionage aspects?
... will there be any requirement for governance of your population?
-Am I overthinking this in asking these questions? :)

It all looks very exciting and impressive.

I'd agree that many many in the past have promised F2P and even meant it but ended up delivering P2W ... that said none of those developers were MM, my memory of MM is that he's a man of his word and I trust him.

I'm definately going to show my support and be a donator.
