Hello, SweetJuleka. :) No. We will not be releasing a playable build due to reasons explained in the past. Some of the content could likely be used by the community in creative ways though. You are right.
If you want to keep posted on it just add me as a friend and we can discuss this or I'll send you some info on how anything in that direction is coming along.

Also while some may claim the mod is dead... You really can't shut down an experience that has already been made.

Hello dear followers!

Thank you for you patience and apologies for the lack of updates here but we can assure you the project has not been thrown into the bin.

So we have not made updates since the project ran into issues because of the entire "standalone" debacle when we were informed that Universal thought we were releasing a standalone game rather than a free HL2 mod. Their conclusions came out of misconceptions about our project presented in some articles (which later were corrected).

Despite the fact us being a mod with evidence of it dating years back we had to meet some conditions asked from us and we did it immediately. That is why we dropped of the MODDB community and YouTube.
JL has also tried to restructure its development but is as mentioned ongoing.

Regarding release.
We don't have a specific release date - As you can imagine our development timeline was indeed affected past 6 months. I will not pretend that all of this and COVID did not affect our development.

So there is still hope for JL to be released as you see.
We will also do our best to share more information in the future.

I understand that, but we are happy with what we have and let me explain why.
During JL's entire existence we only found two persons wanting to make a full custom human character and head, but they did not know how to create facial animations that could translate into the game engine and support speech (original heads do). Finding people that want to work for free and have such knowledge has been literally impossible for us despite this being a popular franchise.

When JL had to stop its development in late 2013/early 2014 (for personal reasons etc) we had briefly a boost in recruitment due to positive feedback from community and exposure however we by then had no ability to make anything of it. Mod was put on ice.
In late 2019 we returned and try our shot at giving all those that waited so long at least something to have fun with and these are the characters we have been able to make and share.

JL is still a HL2 mod.
Since people were buying HL2 to play JL we wanted to explain that people no longer had to purchase HL2. Valve now provides SDK (Software Development Kits) with necessary HL2 game files for modders. In that sense we are "standalone", but no more than any other mod. This term created a skewed view of the mods status.

Regarding HL2. We obviously still recommend people getting HL2 as it's a great game.

So it certainly has been a challenge to make these environments. Optimization was always important and on top of that almost each plant or tree must be placed by hand, except for some of the small detail sprites.
VRAD actually does handle it surprisingly well. No children were sacrificed xD Only time.

We're also really happy with how things are coming together in that area. It was a long journey to get to this point but it exciting to see these new members use their talent and create the dialogues for the project.

Unfortunately we do not at this time. We need a coder to investigate the extra mode and for the project it's been difficult to find those with the knowledge or time to handle it.
Discussion about it has been on the table.

That is correct! :) There is a background selection image also to add even more contrast. It can however be disabled if preferred. For now only with console commands.

You can also change position of the hud. Right left. Make a mini version of the hud elements which can be in all corners of the screen.

On the 25th December I gave you an answer to your question. You ignored it. Instead again you come with your comment full of ill will to people that make a mod for FREE.
Also during ~6 years there was no development (for personal reasons among other things) and another ~2 years was near to none in leadership transition and project in limbo.
Then we needed to learn all the tools! I had to learn level design, VMT commands, QC compiling and commands, modeling, uv mapping and animation and rigging. You think that is easy?

I do believe the old demo it's not running anymore. I tested it now and by default things seem to be missing and crash to desktop when trying a quick workaround.
Maybe in the future we can solve this.

Edit. I managed to get the menu running with updating the gameinfo. But I can't start the game yet. No New game item available. I'll post an update later.

edit2: So while I was not able to start new game the map can be loaded through developer console (if it's enabled in options).
Might update the old demo file later this week or next week.

Could be more. 4-5 hours was before we even added the last 3 levels, almost no VA was present either. Unfinished dialogues,cutscenes and clipping fast through the two last levels due to issues we had with interaction at the point.
