If you realy want to turn ON IFF, look at "user.ltx" and "tmp.ltx" in your savegame folder. Change variable "hud_info off" to "hud_info on"

Btw, I'm still working on the sound/stealth part. In "xr_hear.script\" and "xr_logic.script\" are function how sound detection works. I still need more info from other files, probably "utils.script\" and data from *.ogg music. Game calculates somehow NPC distance from sound source, sound power, and sound type.
Game for altering NPC state from relaxed to aware/combat state probably use "WPN_shoot" and "WPN_hit" type of sound and sound power.
Changing sound power variable could also alter general SFX for actor. After changing sound power to smaller value ruins the SFX, changing sound type from "WPN_hit" to something else like "ITM_drop" could do the trick.
I did not have time to check sound SDK, so I do not know where sound power and sound type is.

It's nice to hear that you are making progress, but if you don't want to download the whole SDK for sound tweaking, check out "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Sound Attribute Viewer and Tweaker" (here: Metacognix.com), that Cybersemtex posted at the stealth thread.

Keep me up to date mate. You can try to lower the MAX AI Detection range of the sounds too in the comments ;)
