Ludum Dare 27 : "Unseen"

SkittlegirlSound Blog

This past weekend I joined a game jam for Ludum Dare 27! The theme was "10 Seconds".We spent all Friday trying to figure out what kind of game we wanted to create. We came up with nearly 20 ideas for the theme, then narrowed them down.

In the end, we finally decided to go with one idea. We made a task list for each person for the day.On Saturday, I worked on the theme music, atmosphere music and sound effects. Also we discussed the overall gameplay and the kinds of endings we'd create.

On Sunday, I polished the sound effects. Since it was a horror game, I made my studio dark and listened to the sound effects to see if they were scary enough! (It was a very lonely task....). I also translated the game text to Japanese. In the end, we decided to call the game "Unseen".

On Monday, finally we wrapped it up and submitted the game on the Ludun Dare website. We were really busy and it was such a nice challenge. I enjoyed working with everyone. Here's the game "Unseen" :

Project: Composition #02 "Last Call"

SkittlegirlSound Blog

Here is the second entry of the Project: Composition!

Genre / Style : Hip Hop / R&B
Situation / Place : Intermission
Mood : Mysterious

Support Tarot Card :
The Tower.

Note : I used The Tower card to just simply support the mood "mysterious". Instead of "Crisis", I took the card as "a feeling that something might happen". To reproduce the "mysterious" mood, I used an electric piano sound. Then I added an acoustic piano sound along with some funky synth loops.

The result : "Last Call"

Project: Composition #01 "Distorted Truth"

SkittlegirlSound Blog

Here is the very first entry of the Project: Composition!

Genre / Style : Techno, Electronica, D&B
Situation / Place : House, mansion, person (hero, friend, lover, enemy) or monster's theme
Mood : Mad / Distorted / Crazy

Support Tarot Card : 5 of Swords - A guy walks away from others. He holds swords and moves forward, leaving people who he stole the swords from behind.

Note :
Since I pulled "5 of Swords" tarot card, I decided to go with a "person" (Situation / Place). Also, since its mood is "Mad / Distorted / Crazy" I decided to use eerie Music Box sound in the song to add a weird effect. Since the man in the Tarot card looks confident, I decided to make the song somewhat narcissistic.

After everything, I decided to create a piece based on my imagining of this person giving a narcissistic speech to the world as a villain.

The result : "Distorted Truth"

“Project: Composition” Launched!

What's "Project: Composition"?
"Project: Composition" is a challenge where I pull random cards from the piles of "Genre / Style", "Situation / Place" and "Mood", combine them, and make music which matches the theme. This project is to push my creativity further as well as just for fun!
Here are the rules :1. Draw three cards from three piles. The piles are as follows : Genre / Style, Situation / place, and Mood.2. Draw a tarot card to reference for the situation / imagination.3. Create a piece based on the selected cards.4. Upload the piece on SoundCloud and blog about it here.
I'll do this at least once a month, unless there's a big project going on.
The pieces created within this project will be available in our upcoming Royalty Free Music store, which I'm planning to launch this year. If you hear a piece you like, be sure to check with us again!

New Songs Posted : Anime Style Theme Music for RPG

SkittlegirlSound Blog

I just posted my latest music composition, an anime style RPG theme music on SoundCloud.

This was actually a tough but fun challenge. The first melody (0:15) was the hardest labor out of anything in the song. I tried and dumped many melodies for this part. Eventually the melody came down to me naturally. Melody B (1:00) was more complicated when I started to compose but it ended up being simpler. One of my challenges in this song was to keep the song constantly upbeat. The intro, bridges, and ending were relatively short because of this. Other than that, just simply trying to create a catchy melody was a good challenge.
Also I created an 8bit/Chiptune arrangement of the original song, the Pocket Version of Anime Style RPG Theme Music.
These songs are currently not used in any game projects. If you're interested in licensing these songs as exclusive tracks for your project or commissioning a custom track, please let me know via this form!
