Having read this, I played until I got late in the game and you were right; the magazine sizes were just huge by then. I still encountered an issue where dropping an empty gun made the gun in the next slot empty as well.

A quick bug report for you:
I discovered that not only do weapon slots share the same magazine, but if you empty the first slot completely, drop the gun and the second is equipped, not only will it be empty (regardless of it's previous capacity) but reloading it will place all reserve ammo into the magazine, giving me around 200 shots before I'd have to reload again. This has happened each time I tested it.
