Can you try installing this? Mediafire.com
This removes the Dynamic Indication system from the HUD which should reduce CPU load.

This is amazing, thanks so much for putting this together! Not only the text but also the videos
Yes, but you might have some problems with Reshade (black screen etc). To fix it, change the file paths in HeatOfBattle\Battlefield 2\d3d9.ini from C: to E:
You need the ESAI folder in mods/bf2
Sorry, I meant that you should use the old menu_server, not the old menu_client. It won't work with the old menu_client.
The Dynamic Indication aspect of Damocles also relies on custom python code, I'm sure it won't work without it.
Not sure exactly how your setup works, but I'd be curious if you could try the full standalone build but using the old version's menu_client without Damocles and Dynamic Indication? Then we could isolate the crash to something with the HUD.
Thanks for exploring this for me! You are referring to menu_client and menu_server and clientArchives.con and serverArchives.con?
Try deleting everything in My Documents/Battlefield 2 instead of just the profiles. Launch from the .bat and start a game in local co-op WITHOUT touching anything in controls or graphics settings.
Same whether Conquest mode or Rush?

Are you playing in Singleplayer mode? Have you tried hosting a local co-op server?
Sounds like it could be your CPU hitting its limits then. Dynamic Indication and PR effects are both quite CPU-intensive unfortunately. I'm working on a Lite version which will be more similar to the previous release.
Feel free to delete the aidefault files and replace them with your own or from another mod if that's what you prefer. Don't delete aiBehaviors or aiDefaultStrategies though.
Pretty sure this issue is related to first time controls setup. Go to My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles and delete everything, then restart the mod so it can set up controls again.

What maps are crashing for you when you click Join Game?
If you run the game in windowed mode, do you get an error message when the game crashes?
Try copying the ESAI folder from mods/bf2 to mods/Heat_Of_Battle. So you should have an ESAI folder in both places.

Hey everyone, to fix the crashing when joining game issue, try copying the ESAI folder from mods/bf2 to mods/Heat_Of_Battle. So you should have an ESAI folder in both places.
Looks great! Nice textures and specular reflections as well.
Edit or delete HudElementsHit.con in menu_server.zip/HUD/HudSetup/
Yep, except better! I was previously using the BF4 Pecheneg model which was inaccurate and out of date. This new model comes from Survarium which is higher quality, more accurate to real life, and looks better in the BF2 engine.
That should be correct. Any files in the server will overwrite files in the client. If you are playing offline it should not make any difference as far as I know. But this is not my area of expertise
I'm not too familiar with the vehicle side of things unfortunately :/ Seems like you're doing a good job of trying to diagnose the issue though. You might have to disable the vehicles one by one to find out which one is causing the crash. Or try to remember the last time the game didn't crash and what you changed that caused it to start crashing.

I have been modding Battlefield 2 for about four years now. My specialty is animation mixing and blending but I'm pretty experienced in a variety of areas, including BFmeshviewer and 3ds Max. I have also done a lot of work with texture editing and mesh hacking, with a focus on realistic specular lighting and shading effects. I have released some of my work on my YouTube page. If you click on the homepage link on my profile, that should take you to my channel.
