I am a freelance 2D and 3D artist with a passion for science fiction art. My interest in this kind of art started at an early age through my dual interest in science and art.

Description

Like my Gordon Freeman painting, this Headcrab painting serves as both the inspiration for a 3D model, and promotional art for my Half-Life movie where said model will be used.

I have chosen to redesign the Headcrab from Half-Life as a juvenile version of the Headcrab from Half-Life 2. I did this to take full advantage of seldom noticed differences that have always existed between them, while at the same time giving myself the opportunity to make it more crablike without breaking continuity.

For instance: On the original Headcrab-Zombie can be seen a skull in the Headcrab. While this has often been interpreted as a fleshy alien moulding itself to the head, the Headcrab model in Half-Life does in fact contain a texture named 'transparent_section' suggesting that it was originally intended to be partially transparent. The fact that translucency made its way back into the game through the Baby Headcrab would seem to lend weight to this idea. And so I have incorporated translucency into my design.

I hope sincerely that the changes reflect my stated belief that changes must make sense or make something better.
