We definitely plan that, and there are already small pieces of that in the alpha version.
To research more advanced technologies, you need to get alien artefacts (and create alien science packs from that) and it is only possible by conquering their bases.
We plan something like nuclear reactor for the game for sure, we plan to make energy more important in the game (nuclear, fission, accumulators, energy shields, laser rocket defense etc.).
I didn't get to actually build nuclear reactor in IC², but I'm aware that configuring it is quite complex and depends on the way you want to run it and risk you are ready to take. I don't plan to rip off the IC², but I'm sure the nuclear reactor shouldn't be simple and straightforward to setup in our game either.
