Correct!
Hobbs is right we do like the designs.
Though to add some onto it we also wanted to include designs from all three sources of TOS era design influence.
The 1st is TOS itself and the general 'what will the future look like from the 60's prespective.
The second is JJ Abrams films, the Kelvin and its derivatives had some really cool design choices and we've incorporated that into AotF.
The 3rd is from Discovery, however Discovery's look takes more from the angular rounded look of the TMP era films more than TOS. Which is fine, TMP arguably is what TOS would have looked like with a bigger budget. Remember, sci-fi from the mid 60's to late 70's didn't change much. Star Wars was a catalyst for change but even a New Hope still has a retro look to it. That's what we've gone with the Discovery ships. Think of them as experimental vessels that influence the TMP era and they make a lot more sense. Especially with the changes Max has made to them.
Thanks for asking in a respectable way too. I know Discovery can be quite polarizing but it was nice to see the question well delivered.
Side note, Star Trek ended in 1969 and then 12 years later we got Blade Runner. The 80's was dramatic for Sci-fi and that wouldn't have happened without TMP and Star Wars. What a decade for it.
New Class, the design is radically different enough to warrant it.
The bridge despite being tall is in proportion with the size of the ship. It also helps distinguish it from the regular Providence.

All ships are generally to scale in the mod, what makes the Connie special is the advance tech she packs. One thing Star Trek has shown that size does not always equate to strength.
These are planned for AotF 2, the minor factions are pretty much filled out for AotF 1.
No, it uses in game models but is in fact a render.
I'm sure we had an entity folder somewhere in the git repository. Oh well.

The grid is notorious for being a FPS hog. Best just to keep it off.
Ships move at a quick pace through gravity wells that don't have hostile units in them.
An insane amount of detail for a battle brick, lovely!
The abilities are intentional for balance changes.
That's the new fleet upkeep system working. Due to Sins been sins it does not show it in the financials.
The Minuteman losing out broke my heart. :(
I can't hear anything unfortunately. :(
We know, we think Moddb is throwing a wobbly.
Romulans will have nukes though were limited on weapon types because Sins. Don't worry though it'll all be law friendly ;)
