I think Operation Overloard was a complete failure, not because we lost or because we failed any important objectives, but because of how we did it. The most famous landing; "Omaha Beach" is a prime example of dumb meets desprate. Only the Russians where stupid enough and crule enough to dump Thousands of men on there asses, with a bayonet and some ammo and tell them to storm German Deffences, covered with MG42s and Panzers. But then we went and did the same. I thought we where better than to stoop to thier level. Our GIs got the shit beat out of them, a lonly MG nest could whipe out a whole squad in seconds, and lets not forget the more clever failures, like the tanks that now sit at the bottom of the English channal. But some mistakes are inevitable. Over looking the fact that behind the bunkers was a maze of 10ft tank proof hedges was another "oops" that led to American casulties. as for the British and Cunadians, well they had thier own fight to wage against the SS and their Panzer divisions. They did as best as could be expected of them, and so did the men stuck in all these procarious situations, but the commanders who put them thier should have felt alot worse after they reached paris, Such sacrifice for so little. It opened up France ,but I think we could have done better with over a year of preperation.
