From GZDoom to Wolf4SDL for Wolfenstein: Enigma mod

Conmiester Blog

For the past several months, I have grown sour over using GZDoom for my Wolfenstein mod. While there isn't really anything wrong sticking with that, I didn't feel the same with it anymore and believe that wasn't my mod really going to be like despite it's promising features and so as people like to put it. I could go on and on about why I lost interest with GZDoom and switch back to the original engine but, TL;DR:

Midnight Assault by treesapthief for Wolf4SDL engine and being in contact with him on Discord for a while have shown me the errors of my ways and gave me some ideas to make a new direction for my Wolfenstein mod on SDL engine (as originally intended).

That being said, I ultimately decided to plan up-ahead and revise practically everything from what I sought during my time with GZDoom into what is definitely possible in Wolf4SDL especially, the new campaign that I also took inspiration from Blade of Agony. It took a lot of time planning all of the stuff through but, I feel a lot more happier in the end. Unfortunately, Wolfenstein: Enigma will be on indefinite hiatus as I still never get past the coding barriers of Wolf4SDL until either...

  • A, PFWolf engine fork for Wolf4SDL by treesapthief becomes available by the next several months or next year.
  • B, I somehow get past the initial stages of Wolf4SDL's modding process and take my time to get used to it.
  • C, Find a way to move forward than waiting around.

Then again, a proper team of developers than being alone who are willing to contribute with my mod together would potentially make all the difference.

That's it for now and I hope you have a good one.
