How Russia sees itself

Orange_Tomato Blog 7 comments

Basically: "We are imperialist, but we are good and save you. We want the best for you, but annex you. We want peace, but we have a powerful military". State schizophrenia in action.

And that's not even mentioning all the rose-tinted USSR nostalgia glasses: they don't talk about how "succesfull" their industry really was, how widespread corruption really was, and how many people had to die to reach that "utopia".

I mean I tried to stop putting up with all that pro-russian bullshit, I mean that type of "peaceful Russia" is already a collapsing shithole, but ... DAYYUUUM!

"Ukraine: from Propaganda to Reality"

Very intresting lecture by Yale University’s Timothy Snyder on the crisis in Ukraine. The full speech can be found here, the part I posted is especially interesting because it very neatly manages to sum up why blatant lies about the conflict propagated by the RF goverment are so effective and why the majority in Russia and even a lot of people in the West still continue to believe them despite pressing evidence against them. The scariest thing for me is the close similarity to Orwellian police state methods.
