Thanks! :D
:) First level that uses it right now is number 10, I used it to allow two paths to 100% complete it: a combat one and a hacker/stealth one.
A couple of them are thanks to your feedback, hope you like them :) If the range of the FOV slider is not enough, tell me and I'll increase it, but hopefully you'll find a setting in there you are more comfortable with this time.
Thanks!
Yes, I plan to add an FOV slider in the options at some point. And supporting the numpad for the keypads sounds cool and easy to add, so it's now in the ToDo list.
As it says in the credits section of the readme file, for this game I used some free sounds from freesound.org, the same place Notch got some of the sounds for minecraft from (as the minecraft credits' webpage said back then), including the hurt one you are referring to (http://www.freesound.org/people/thecheeseman/sounds/44429/)... so saying that the sound was "ripped" from minecraft is sadly far from the truth.
Thanks! Although I'll use the devblog to post things more freely, the plan is to also keep posting the most interesting and/or important updates here.
I made the engine for this one myself, using DirectX 9.0c, Bullet Physics and OpenAL, as I say in the description. Learning how a 3D engine, at least a very basic one, is made was one of my main objectives when I decided to make this.
Thanks!, I'm now uploading a new video and editing a new post to explain a little what these new screenshots show.
I'll definitely have to think about it, thanks for your input and your kind words! (yes, Doom 3 and FEAR are certainly among the games that inspired me to make this one, many people seem to dislike or don't think much about Doom 3 nowadays but, although it has its flaws, I really enjoy playing it and like its atmosphere/visuals a lot)
Thanks!! I want to wait until I have a version of the game that contains all/most of the elements/mechanics I want in it and shows, to me and everybody, that having a final version is only a matter of time, before I think about the commercial/distribution aspect of the development, create a greenlight page... things like that. At that point the 'early access', alpha distribution... option could be interesting, although for this type of game (an adventure, mostly linear, divided in levels), as a player, paying for playing an alpha/beta version probably is not much fun for most people (with levels changing between updates, savegames breaking...). But it may be interesting for people, like you say, that want to try it, see how it grows, help test it or just support the development... so I'm not sure, I'll have to think about it when, hopefully, the time comes :)
Well, it's not something we have right now but I believe someday we'll be able to create AIs capable of interacting with humans fluently, not at all like a 'computer program'. And it's not a strange concept in popular fiction, there are many examples of AIs similar to that, like HAL 9000, Glados... Anyway, in the world/time my story takes place in, someone has already designed one of those and the main character carries one.
Thanks for your input. Yes, but I prefer it this way, it fits in the story and is one of the tools I use to provide info about it. The AI is also a way to provide help with things that the main character (and by extension the player) may not have thought, noticed or known about in a 'realistic'/logical way. Finally, I also like not hearing the protagonist's voice, it helps me with the immersion as a player.
The AI voice sound is off in the current version. After some people told me they didn't like it and why, I decided that the AI messages will be text only for now.
It's a mix of shooter and adventure/puzzles, the main inspirations that come to mind right now are Half-Life, Doom 3, some details from Deus Ex HR, Fallout 3...
Thanks, glad you like it. It's not similar to DayZ or L4D, it's more an adventure game (you'll have to search the environment to learn about the story and find clues to solve physics based puzzles, or based around the use of computers... things like that) with shooting elements and probably mostly in interiors (if you watch the previous WIP video you'll see more clearly the adventure side of the game).
Thanks! I would like to have something working, at least a prototype or a first part of the game, by the end of the year, but I can't be sure.
Thanks! Well, they are infected, but I admit there's not much of a difference in practice :). They won't be the only enemies in the game, there will be other types like the insectoids you can see in older WIP videos, probably robots and humans if I get the AI right...
thanks a lot!
Thanks! Yeah, sometimes some words sound a bit off although usually not many I think (always keeping in mind that it should sound a little artificial), I was quite happy with how phrases sounded in general but I'm probably too used to how it sounds and know what it is saying to be objective... I'll probably continue creating the AI voice this way if the combination voice + text is good enough to convey the messages while contributing to the atmosphere of the game and it at least doesn't annoy any player. Changing it in the future would be 'just' a matter of recording the phrases again using other method or voice actor so if the need really arises and I have the resources I could always do that.
Thanks!
I would like the AI voice to be like it's right now, if people don't hate it :), I do want it to sound computerized and not perfect, like how I imagine a real AI would sound like if you could make it talk/interact like that with the current technology (in fact it's made with a text-to-speech program and then edited a little to achieve that, and also because it is a cheap way to do it :D). My main fear is people don't liking this approach so I hope you found it strange sounding but not annoying...
I agree with the camera sound, I had lowered its volume some time ago exactly because I thought the same as you, but maybe I should lower it down even more (probably I got used to hearing it and don't notice if it's too high anymore).
Thanks! It won't be free, but I don't know about the final price yet.
Thanks!, glad you like it. I don't need testers for now, but thanks for the offer. If at some point I need testers I'll post something here.
