I would recommend people Norton 2012 internet security for multiple reasons.
First it has a really low memory usage and the amount of options is remarkable. Its interface is very simple to get used to and if you get hit by a virus it will usually remove the virus without it executing its payload. It is a very good anti rootkit and I expect nothing less from a product from norton. Even though its a bit on the expensive side and you can get free alternatives I would still recommend this. Even though gdata has been known to prevent 99.6% of viruses I still think norton beats it in several areas (and that includes the firewall in norton) for example the sonar which is norton main component scans the program offline and online using its servers to make sure it is not missing anything. It relys on the trust of its community to prevail against unknown zero day infections.

If people cannot pay for Norton give Nod32 ESET a try because of the scanning speed is greater than most. I am still unsure about avast's speed of scanning files compared to Nod32. Nod32 v5 has become a great addition to the AV market but one cannot simply rely on one AV for complete protection, installing threat-fire can assist your AV giving you at least 95% protection.Overall for gaming out of the two, I would recommend Norton because of the memory usage.

One final note one must be very careful when choosing an antivirus because of multiple reasons. One of the big reasons is false information from each of the rival communities. I have came across a lot of forums where people are still comparing antivirus programs to 2008 when they should be testing the latest and greatest versions before spewing nonsense. Another reason is third party vendors and they are usually paid to make reviews based on how much they are paid toptenreviews are known are this stay away from them.
