Why I'm really looking forward to Desura on Linux. | Locked | |

I would imagine that most Linux users are pretty passionate about Free and open source software and the advantages it provides. For a lot of folks that's the main reason we use it. I also love package managers. It's one of the things that makes Linux so much easier to use than Windows IMO. This may sound stupid to some people, but it's just what's been going through my head. I have all the humble bundles, and going back and checking to see if they've been updated was a pain in the ass. Bring on Desura! Edited by: rioninja |

I use Ubuntu because its easier then windows, I have no political (open vs proprietary) allegiance. Windows seven has a huge interface that while similar to all previous versions isn't as simple as Ubuntu's be it the classic from 10.10- or the new Unity 11.04+. I like Ubuntu because it has very few hassles for me idk about most other distros so I'd be sad to see this go away. I'm looking forward to Desura because I seriously want more native games, yea crossover/wine/pol is ok but its sure as hell not native, also the software center doesn't have that many good games.... the playdeb ppa helps a little bit with that but still I think Desura is going to be GREAT! |

A lot of people like to complain about the lack of "Triple A" games on Linux, but to be honest I don't even care anymore. I'm sure everyone here has a ton of games they loved when they were younger, and just about all of them came from small game studios. Hell, back in the 80s and 90s they were all small studios by today's standard. I think that thanks to things like the Xbox Arcade, IndieDB, Steam, etc, we've been seeing a sort of indie game boom. The so-called AAA game studios have gotten too big, and generally stale. Sure there are a lot of games that can only be made with a huge budget, but I feel that the majority of good games coming out these days are from independent studios. Desura is one more way that these smaller guys have a chance to get there games out there in today's market. These independent developers have been treating Linux like a first class citizen, unlike the EAs of the world, and I'm looking forward to showing them some love by purchasing their games on the Desura Linux client. |
