Post news Report RSS Play-testing. One Of My Favourite Things!

Some things are just better tested on a big screen, in a living room, on a console.

One thing I do, really, really enjoy is play-testing my games. To the point where I probably spend more time play-testing than developing. I've been doing the regular stuff on the PC, checking input all works okay and that's fine, but playing through They Are Everywhere on a proper TV screen through the OUYA at the weekend was really great fun!

That's an important thing and it really determines whether or not I'm going to finish off a game. If I can come back to a game a while into development and still have fun playing it then that's really encouraging for me. I've had a few games I've started off then felt they were a bit 'meh' and stopped making them as they just didn't feel that fun to play.

I'm really happy with the feedback I've had from the few people I've sent builds out to, a few people who have played it once of twice have progressed a little bit into the game, whereas players who have spent more time playing have gotten further into it, so the difficulty curve is getting somewhere near right here.

My son Triston had a few goes and managed to get midway through the 2nd zone, which is pretty good considering he's five years old. He wants the game to have continues and I'm probably going to put those into an easier difficulty setting.

Normal difficulty will be just one credit still but both difficulties will have the game speed adjustments available.
Easy difficulty will probably have slightly fewer enemies spawning to boot.

I guess that means there will be both an easy and a normal difficulty for practice mode to boot!
