The World of C'wbiau is a 2D platformer game where the player controls the king of the C'wbiau, a cube-like species living in another dimension. Not long ago the world was encircled by the Darkness, its forces destroying everything in their path...

Report RSS Content Update: Appearing from nowhere, with fires and flames...

A little more than a week has now passed since The World of C'wbiau reached the surface, and established itself on a little island here on the internet. Now it is ready too speak out to others about what it has to offer this neverending world.

So, about a week has passed and it is time for the first update here on IndieDB. This week has been a week full of both school work and programming, and quite a lot of things have been done.
This update comes with a few additions to the gameplay, and more code fixes and bug fixes (for complete list of the changes, consult the bottom of this post). The most thrilling of the new features can be seen on these two images (I recommend you to click on the images and then choose "View Original" to get full quality):

Displaying Fires and Teleporters Displaying Fires and Teleporters

First thing to note on the screenshots to the left are that the fires actually has textures now. Second thing would be that the fires randomly shoots out sparks which has a chance of setting other tiles (which are flammable, of course) ablaze. This system is based on an idea from my brother, which I thank him for, and seem to work really great, though there are still a lot of tweaking to do to get everything in balance.

If we go on to the next screenshot, the one to the right, we have a nice demonstration of how the teleporters look. The teleporters can be used by both the player and npcs. When the player uses it the screen will flash in the same colour as the teleporter, which then will shut down for a few seconds (exapmle of this in the lower left of the screenshot). Currently the teleporters can beam the player and npcs anywhere as no reciever is required, and they can even teleport the player to other levels.

Now on to the complete changelog:

Features
• Three fire animations fixed, one to go.
• Added so fires randomly emits sparks that can put other tiles on fire.
• Added teleporters in four different colours.
• Added Bammers (A new type of enemy).
• In-Game Debug-information (now with Game Version) can be toggled on and off.
• Pressing 'R' now reloads the level, instead of just teleporting the player back to spawn.

Bugs and performance
• More efficient code regarding tiles.
• Made the enemies' code more effective and better.
• Fixed a bug which made it possible to move into some tiles after a fire on them
had been extinguished.
• Fixed a bug that made it possible to move into solid tiles next to teleporters (and other
background tiles).
• Fixed a few severe errors which could occur when creating explosions.
• Fixed a problem with unexpected pauses (they could make the game run up to 6 times faster)...
• The player was not affected by explosions.
• The player could not walk in front of burning "background tiles".
• Explosions no longer affect npcs behind walls.

I've also consulted a friend regarding platform-compatibility, and we came to the conclusion that The World of C'wbiau most likely will run on Mac and Linux as well as Windows, but as I have only access to computers running Windows testing this will be up to anyone who dares...

(Final note: It is likely that I will release an alpha-version with the next update, or the update after that, if I manage to reach my goal for these updates.)
