Sylph is a tribute to Takeshi Miyaji of Game Arts and G-Mode and a love letter to the original 1986 title Silpheed for the PC-8801. Musical inspiration is taken from the MS-DOS port’s Roland MT-32 score as composed by Mecano Associates and arranged by Mark Seibert, and is being composed and arranged by Mordi. If you’re not familiar with Silpheed, it is a science fiction shoot’em up that treated the genre with a level of respect, sophistication and technical supremacy unseen at the time. Sylph progresses across 20 areas from Earth to Pluto before the final confrontation with the battleship Gloire and terrorist leader Xacalite at the helm. Earn additional weaponry as you blast your way through this hard-nosed, old-school shooter.

Description

Both galactic and near stars' brilliance are modified by large light-reflecting objects such as planets and base stages. The night sky becomes brighter as the player moves farther from the Sun and between celestial bodies.

This video demonstrates the brighter end of the spectrum far from Earth with the Milky Way vibrant in the background (AREA 19 and 20), near Pluto. The hulking carcasses of destroyed capital ships and nimble silhouettes of dead fighters will solemnly address the player as they navigate AREA 19.
