ScrumbleShip is the most accurate space combat simulation devised to date. Gather resources, construct a capital ship out of individual blocks, then pilot it with AI or human help against other players.
This is the S.S. BaubleHopper, a masterwork asteroid tug. She has a tungsten frame supporting three plastic support bubbles. She is decorated with iridium cross guards and a chrome command center. She enjoys the out of doors. She is a hearty creature with a love of industry.
+20 (!) bonus points for the reference.
I made the BaubleHopper to test out how people build in ScrumbleShip. Based on that I've done a lot of improvements, making building much more fun than it used to be.
This particular ship has few weapons, and would need an escort to get much done. However, it will be quite feasible to design a ship as an asteroid tug - Wander out to the asteroid belt, select a likely looking rock, then haul the entire thing back and sell it at a discount price to whichever planet will buy.
Nice! Really looking forward to building some new ships in the next release... will the final game have proper singleplayer? Or will it be mainly multiplayer?
Good question! My intention is to push hard to get a solid multiplayer on final release, so a /fun/ singleplayer may have to wait for an expansion. But I'll make no promises one way ot the other yet : )
Although I should make it clear that the Dwarf Fortress language is just a joke - I don't intend to do obsessive text descriptions of everything in the game.
I DO intend to model Clone happiness. Give them a bed, a room, a cafeteria on board ship and watch their effectiveness skyrocket. Perhaps even model sickness and medbays.
Good plan, haul a 1-km wide mass of solid rock / metal towards a planet... I am sure the inhabitants will be very pleased to know they can actually buy the asteroid that will soon be killing most if not all of their population, and at a discount price, too! :] I hope it is possible to do this, assuming planets will even have that in-depth an existence.
*grins* It's presumed that planets will have weapons systems impressive enough to be able to defend against this sort of thing - blow the asteroid apart into tiny chunks with an overpowered laser before it hits the atmosphere. If planets didn't have some defense against it, any ship could pull this kind of stunt - And we're positing a universe filled with thousands of these sorts of ships.
Wait, assuming the planet didn't have the technology would we be able to just strip mine the planet and add some oppression to the inhabitants if we wanted to? (again,a assuming the inhabitants are, say, tribal stage of development) More inquiry, what form of setup is there going to be? Vast inter-galactic empires as well as small tribal settlements that have been shut out from any advanced technology due to not developing it or.. Now I am hungry for info, although I will understand if you have no idea what you will do since it is too early to say.
ScrumbleShip's goals are to be True-to-life, True-to-Science-Fiction, and to be Fun. Multiple stages of civilizations and methods to interact are definitely aligned with those goals!
Planets will exist, but be mostly off-limits until after 1.0 ScrumbleShip is released. So while I do intend to eventually get around to planets, that's years in the future at this point :)

No worries, either way this is still awesome.
Urist "CommanderKeen" McSpacemarine lases at the S. S. Baublehopper with his +Ruby Laser+, melting the plastic and melting the tungsten!
S. S. BaubleHopper, asteroid tug, has been struck down.
This sounds really, really awesome. Now I'm looking forward to it more than ever.

Yet, anyway :D

Well, it's not your game that displays everything in ASCII. Even though it would be awesome to have DF style failure spirals.
