Roses and Gems is a game all about dying. Er, I mean, Roses and Gems is all about avoiding the inevitable, whether you're slaying harmless creatures trying to blow up your catalyst, mining underground for gems to trade with merchants, collecting upgrades for your person, finding secrets of the underground or even building the baddest, wickedest fort ever only to have it torn down by dirt slinging dung beetles.

In which I describe my progress on adding gears+various other mechanics and the ability to toggle certain blocks.

So a new update. since last posting, I've added some things, fixed some things and upgraded other things.


Firstly, I've added gears. Gears allow you to make more complex trap than you could before. Currently there's only one thing that can be powered by gears, that being a saw blade, which is pretty effective. Gears get their power from windmills. There are also gearboxes, these allow you to transport energy vertically through poles.


A new system was also added today which allows blocks to be toggled to different states. As seen in the above picture, one of the doors has been toggled to mark 'no entry' (this keeps npcs from entering the door) and next to the player, a gearbox has been toggled off. This gives gears another use as switches.

The rest of today's and yesterday's progress was bug fixing (sometimes literally). Spiders and bats used to mow through blocks at a really fast rate, that was fixed. Also, upon fixing that, spiders also died upon digging through everything, so that had to be fixed too. I fixed some a bug with trapdoors breaking up opening. I'm fairly certain there's been some things I've missed, but I can't remember them.
