A Driving Simulator Made By A Visual Effects Studio.

Sausalito, California - Imagine having a garage filled with cars that just a handful of people have ever put their hands on, driven, or even seen. Have you ever dreamed of driving freely, without bumper to bumper traffic? Welcome to Polygon Entertainment's “Proving Ground 2014” where you are a test driver with access to the latest model cars.

All of the vehicles are prototypes and include a family hatchback, two sports cars, and even a classic old-timer convertible.
More vehicles will be added soon. Standard driving assistants such as ABS, traction control, stability control, and various suspension setups are also implemented. The driver can choose to drive freely in the open world (off-road), race along a 12-mile track through the Arizona desert, or participate in test programs on a proving ground. Lap timing is also available.

“It's not a game,” says Polygon's CEO, Hans Uhlig, “It's main feature is the use of a very sophisticated physics simulation which relies heavily on Nvidia's PhysX® system. Additionally, we use the latest shader technology to achieve the perfect car paint look and reflections on chrome and glass. Finally, we also use the latest rendering technology for lighting (for soft shadows and ambient occlusion) and post effects (e.g. lens effects and color timing) to make the experience as realistic as possible.
This simulator is not targeted at the average gamer, but rather the car enthusiast gear-head with a passion for actual sportive driving of real cars. “We’re not trying to compete with the ‘big players’ in terms of scope or price, but definitely in terms of fun and visual quality,” says Uhlig. “The simulator is very challenging, just like the real thing, so it can actually improve your real-world driving. I found myself driving less aggressively.”

Prior to launching Polygon Entertainment in 2007, Uhlig's previous experience included Visual Effects Supervision at Industrial Light + Magic, so the spectacular visuals in “Proving Ground Simulator 2014” are much closer to feature film quality than other simulators or games in the genre.
