It's been a long way as Pixel Boat Rush now completes its 18th month of development as it is about to enter its final beta stage. What was supposed to be a simple game at first soon expanded out of proportions in a Gran-Turismo-esque structure. At some point, we even wished to add a simulation racing team management mode, before tracking back and cut several features in order to be able to complete the game at some point. Hell, there already was a LOT of game content, you need to trace a line somewhere. Here's a fast tour of what the game is about.
Pixel Boat Rush is a combat 8-bit arcade boat racing game, mixed with parodic elements and set in a GT-like progression structure.
You start the game as an ex super-pilot making a comeback and find yourself having to pass all your licenses again for the right to compete as a super-pilot once again.
Soon, you find yourself climbing the ladder and race through the 100 racing events like cups, ceasefire, carnage, demolition, endurance, last man standing or eliminations.
You'll be racing against the 4 racing classes pilots and champion, always set in a humoristic context full of parodic references.
As you race through one the 15 racing tracks,
you'll be purchasing some of the 50 boats, each categorized by its own stats and equipped with its own set of upgradable equipment, systems and guns among the 5 types of active systems, 6 types of passive systems and 20 types of weapons.
This means that every boat will have its own gameplay and behaviour, best suited to specific events. As you learn the tracks and become more competitive on the best lap leaderboards, you might want to train your skills further against your best ghosts.
We'll be coming-up with an official trailer soon. Meanwhile, here's a few animated gifs displaying the game in action.
