The Developer Blog looked like it was in need of a fresh animated picture so here it is. This picture demonstrates moving items from a player’s backpack to the map. Players can only drop items on adjacent tiles. Items also can’t be dropped or picked up on tiles occupied by other players or NPCs.
There are two ways to pick up items, dragging and dropping an adjacent item onto your character or your backpack. If you drop an item inside your backpack it will go to those exact coordinates. If you are in a rush and drag them onto your character they will go to a random coordinate inside the backpack.
