A recap of the trailer and answers to some general questions.

Hey guys,

After years of development our excitement to share this game with everyone got the better of us. In turn, we felt the game was presented without a proper introduction to what it’s actually about. We hope this article addresses the important issues and clarifies what you can expect out of the game.

What's the Story?

Nin is a forgotten toy from the 90's that has been cast away to a dark corner. His curiosity of the outside world sets him off on a journey to see how times have changed. His determination will test both his wits and agility against challenging obstacles and unique puzzles.

How does it play?

Firstly, we omitted several traditional mechanics featured in most adventure games to convey the realistic nature of everyday life. For example, the game will not display a HUD system to indicate the character's health or inventory. These elements will instead be portrayed in a more immersive manner.

The health status will be made apparent by Nin's appearance and players will instead have to take note of his physical condition as shown below:

As seen in the trailer, Nin has access to several crafty tools that provide different approaches to the player's imminent situation. Each tool has its own benefits and drawbacks:

Inventory will be limited to what Nin can actually manage as a keychain plushie. If the player decides to take the Med Floss, then space for the Grapple Jack will not be possible.

Lastly, the game's controls will feature full rotation movement similar to the Resident Evil series. It abandons the popular third-person view in favor of fixed camera angles to portray a cinematic experience. This system combined with platforming elements defines the survival-adventure genre of Nin.

How long is it?

The original scope of the project was quite ambitious, so we decided to split the game into 3 parts due to time constraints. What you witnessed in the trailer was the first episode of Nin, which has aspects of both story-driven and free-roaming gameplay. An experienced player doing a speed run may complete the game in 30-45 minutes, whereas new players taking their time for a 100% completion may spend over 7 hours.

That about covers the important bits of the game. If you'd like to see more, then please stay tuned for news regarding how the game will be distributed. Until then, feel free to ask any questions and we'll try to answer them as best as possible.

Thanks for reading!

First time I see a project use the Sketchfab viewer. I think that's awesome! The game looks cute, too. Good job!

What's that thing on the end of the Grapple Jack (the "hook")? It seems so familiar to me, but I can't pin down where I saw this in real life and what it is used for.

We were going to post screenshots for the items, but found that Sketchfab provides a more interactive look at our work. It's also very neat and simple to use =)

The hook at the end of the Grapple Jack is a game piece from "Jacks". It used to be a common pastime on school grounds during the 90's. You can read more of it here if you're interested: En.wikipedia.org

Thanks for the comment and interest!
