It is with an immense pleasure that we, at Tchagata Games, are finally able to show you our first teaser trailer for our upcoming arcade shoot’em up: Nandeyanen!?
While the game still is a “work in progress”, we tried as much as possible to show you the different gameplay mechanics included in the game. As for the trailer montage, we were mainly inspired by the Japanese trailer of the Cave horizontal shooter, Akai Katana Shin.
At the moment, we are still working on our sound effects, visual effects (especially when the bullets hit an enemy) and voices. The main challenge also lies in the tuning-up of the difficulty. Right now, the game appears to be too difficult but we know that there are some immensely good players in the shoot’em up community.
Still, we hope you can enjoy our visuals. As you can see our main influence came from Japanese ghost stories and art. You can always check our artists’ website for more Yôkai sweetness: Goshseiko.com
We also opened a facebook page for our studio and we will use it to relay more pictures and infos on our other projects (card games/board games and such): Facebook.com
We sincerely hope you will enjoy this first glimpse into our world.
Kisses and hugs from our Swiss dens
Looks really fun! The Japanese yōkai look good animated, it's almost like a ukiyo-e coming to life :)
Woua thanks the comment simplysh! We are really going in that direction being huge fans of the Goemon series and Shigeru Mizuki's work. In fact, the game will be shown during an exhibition called "Imagine Japan" at the Neuchatel Museum of Ethnography. I guess they liked how we tried to combine ukiyo-e style with the left-to-right reading of scrolls (which goes really well with the shoot'em up linear flow). Anyhow thanks for the energy!!
That sounds great! Ganbatte!
I love Yokai and Shooters. I imagine the actual hitbox for the player is not the same size as art. It might help to use a particle or some other vfx to help indicate where it is every now and then or as a steady pulse. Keep up the great work, can't wait to play this one!
