So......... there's this fork in the road.........

Posted by on

Its been over 4 months, since I've last updated, and my daughter was born. I'm going to keep it simple this time around.

I started How Far back in May/April 2013. I started it solely to create an alternative big income for the family I was going to have. I mean hey, a dollar app game for a cell phone can even generate a few thousand on its own, right? Why not a pc game sold for a bit more? I felt like the usual solutions to this kind of situation wouldnt be enough, especially knowing I could use my creativity to make money.

You may wonder why I chose Blender Game Engine to create this. However, it was more of an obligation than a choice. I already had a good amount of knowledge on how to use the engine from when I was working on an old Halo fan game. I didnt feel like I had time to go and learn a new engine from the ground up. Another problem was the technology I owned (and still own). My Emachine is NOT meant to handle games, and the fact that it runs a few is mind blowing in itself. The lag time is rediculous and almost every single action made in blender is followed by 5 to 10 seconds of "blender is not responding". All that time adds up, and it sucks because its all wasted time. I believe if I had better equipment I couldve been starting a whole new game and How Far would have been complete and in your hands for a low low price. I wanted to begin a kickstarter for equipment for How Far. Specifically 2 major pieces of tech, a basic desktop capable of running modern games at full graphic settings, and a laptop that can do the same so I can work on the go (NY, always on the move).

Good news for you is that How Far is now playable, considering the fact that the first alpha was empty and objectiveless. I will also be starting video entries updating you on the situations at hand.

Bad news is my computer is no longer connected in my girlfriends house. Her family fixed their old computer and took the spot I was using, and now we have until the end of the month to live there. No one cares what my goal is. No one cares that I'm busting my ass to do something different for myself and my family. They want us to do the same old long term shit: go to a shelter, get public assistance, get a minimum wage job. To hell with that. I'm going to continue fighting for How Far, and I hope enough of you like it enough to support the kickstarter when it launches so this can happen. This is the kind of thing I want to do for a living: this game designing experience is stressful but magical. However I DO want to spread into all forms of media.

I'm not sure what else to say other than i'm stressed, need to publicize more, and am excited for what else I have in store for you. Check the alpha description often, i'll be explaining the alpha there soon.
