“A Nation of Wind” is a video game featuring elements of gameplay from both “Arena Shooters” (like Geometry Wars, Super Stardust, and Asteroids), and “Real Time Strategy” games, (such as Populous, Starcraft, and Actraiser). Set in a world of floating islands and airships, the player is tasked with commanding a ship and establishing/defending colonies. Players will be forced to deal with the bizarre creatures that come up from the lower atmospheres to wreak havoc on their airship and settlements, while appeasing the god’s of the land and eventually bending them to the player’s will. “A Nation of Wind” is currently developed by one intrepid artist, Jameson Wilkins. He is a freelancer with several years of experience in the browser and mobile gaming markets, and has studied game design and art the entirety of his life.

Ah, this game. I can't believe I didn't hear anything about it until the release today, but Jameson did a fantastic job! Entertaining, Inspiring, Moving, and Interesting, A Nation of Wind really made an impression on me. Everything from the graphics representing my tiny nation to the unique enemies consisting of aquatic beings that seem to have gained the ability to fly, pull me into this Skyward Strategy game. The upgrade systems have a good impact on strategy and really show the strengths of this game's concepts. You'll first be struggling with how to fend off enemies and managing multiple islands until you realize the flow and production needed to upkeep your floating continent. Each map provides different and individual challenges, from the lack of certain resources to abundance of foreign foes infiltrating your precious towns.

There are few improvements I could ask for, and the majority of these would mainly be added content. Maybe adding per-map research through the universities, the ability to plant forests or quarry down to discover rocks. Most especially, if the major question of Multiplayer could somehow be implemented. I can't even imagine the amazing times that could be had with a friend, each tackling the same map with their own airships and shared resource pool. These longings hardly detract from the fun to be had with this new freeware title.

Wonderful job Jameson, I hope to see lots more in the future!

Thanks for the glowing praise!

As for the added content, I agree whole-heartedly, the fact is that I could probably have made 2 more games with the amount of time I would have liked to sink into content that was eventually axed. Just a short list would include:

-Additional environments with unique challenges (deserts, snowy plains, volcano dotted lava lakes).
-An equipment system for weaponry with semi-random loot drops. It would designate weapons into various categories that could be equipped to the different sides of the airship, and would immensely increase replay-ability!
-Additional Airships with various features. The player-ship is essentially a "research vessel", well balanced, sort of like the Enterprise in TNG, but you could purchase and upgrade other airships that would be more specific, "merchant" type vessels would be faster and have larger cargo holds, and "warships" would be pretty self explanatory.
-Including the other 3 nations (earth, fire, water) as playable. These would determine the kinds of units that you played with, as well as some of the functions of your spells!

But, again, this was all cut because while it sounds awesome, it would have increased the development time of this title immensely. Although, I do have plans that might lead to the addition of some of that content in the future!

I can't even imagine a game with as much sheer content and gameplay as that. Without hesitation I would pay a full $60 for that game that so many other AAA games fail to attract me with. Especially if you had been able to implement them with the level of polish the current game has.
