3079 is a futuristic, open-world action first-person role playing game. You arrive on a planet experiencing constant war. It is your duty to find out why the warring factions cannot find peace on their own & hopefully restore it yourself. All areas, buildings, items, quests and characters are randomly generated. You will find unique lands & challenges. I hope you enjoy it! "Just want to say again that this is a great game! For those of you who feel like its a minecraft copy just beacuse of the cube textures used you really need to rethink what a game is about! The game play of 3079 is nothing like minecraft it is pretty unique as well as how the weapons all have diffrent stats and colors kind of reminds me of Borderlands. However it is still an original idea for a game and i still play it from time to time. You should at least try the demo and if you like it please buy it and support fruit! :D Still give it a 9/10 ! First of all, I would like to say thanks for this game. I feel like it was made specifically for me or something, since I love procedurally generated environments and loot. I saw the Rock Paper Shotgun article game the other day and immediately made the purchase without even trying the demo. My impressions are very, very positive..and even with my current technical issue, it was completely worth the money.

My issue is that I feel I should be able to run the game better than I am at the moment...and I'm guessing that the problem lies in the Optimus technology of my Nvidia card. I'm not very knowledgeable about this stuff though.

Basically, my movement speed to start is very slow. Its slowest when I have the settings turned up...and I had to turn them down to Basic - Tiny Draw Distance to get a bearable walking speed (not carrying any items.) But it is still too slow... like a crouch walk in most games.

At some point I found an armor that gave me a 70% movement boost and it worked great... but I get the feeling that the starting movement speed was not meant to be as slow as it is. And I'm also guessing that I should be able to play on higher settings.

My laptop's specs:
i7-2630QM 2.0 GHZ
8 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GT 540M

Now, I usually always have trouble with the Optimus thing on my video card which is supposed to switch between integrated and dedicated graphics. For just about every game I have to go to the Nvidia control panel and manually tell it to use dedicated graphics. I did this for 3079, but it doesn't seem to work.

My best guess was that I don't need to set dedicated graphics for the launcher, but for the Java platform instead. I read somewhere that Minecraft causes a similar issue and users were supposed to set dedicated graphics for javaw.exe. So, I tried that, but it doesn't appear to have had any effect.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Update: I just used an Optimus State Viewer tool which confirmed that it is not using dedicated graphics for 3079. So, I'm guessing that I really just need to know what programs to designate for using the Nvidia GPU. I have tried java.exe and javaw.exe in C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0_25

I've heard of this issue with other NVIDIA Optimus players... I've also heard that forcing javaw.exe and java.exe to use dedicated graphics is the fix, but it doesn't sound like it is working for you :( I have an NVIDIA Optimus laptop myself, but I run in Linux, so it can't switch between two graphics cards anyway, so I have it always using the dedicated chipset (set via BIOS). There are other players who have had this problem and resolved it, so maybe they ran into the same problems as you, and they can share their solution here? I hope! :|

I just found a general setting in the Nvidia Control Panel to turn off the card switching, and it worked! I think this option must have been added in a recent update, because I don't remember seeing it in the past. I'm not sure why forcing javaw.exe didn't work, but since I can toggle this option now before playing, I am satisfied. The movement speed is now the same across all of the settings, and I can play on Effects with Full Rendering.

Thanks for the quick reply, and good luck on your next game! I will keep an eye out for it.
