Why does so many websites have to use this metro look?

I liked the old Gamefront and Filefront with simple details and links to whatever file you wanted.

Now it's all big pics ,giant tiles .

Don't care for it personally.

Probably because it is quick and easy. This is temporary, see our announcement post.

Basically, it's how one does it. I've seen sites become so simplified because of the flat design (as it's usually called) that they become worthless (particularly when they no longer have the data they used to), but I've also seen some become more convenient. It all comes down whether you give web development to someone who knows what he's doing or a rookie drooling over new technologies for the sake of new technologies ;)

GameFront is a bit lacking at the moment, but it has potential. As INtense said, it's a temporary design.

It'll become more powerful, but redesign is a slow process for such a big site

The scourge that is metro ,it has also infected Eset Internet Security ,hence why i'm sticking with eset 8.0 until i find a worthy replacement.
Even that once great tool called malwarebytes has fallen victim to this silly trend ,very sad.

Thankfully u can rid Windows of the g'dam tiles. It's the internet for idiots ,we've been overruled by the simpletons.

So you're using an obsolete version which will soon lose support (if it already hasn't) just because the interface has the so-called flat design, even though it may be far more advanced under the hood? Genius.

It still works a-ok and is easily configurable.

That part is true.

it's hard to avoid the metro trend, everything is catering for touch which means big tiles and clickable areas
