Gift a game to promote another Thread

Seeing your giveaways feature I was thinking that it could be good to consider the possibility of adapting it to promote a game by making a giveaway of another.

The thing is I don't want to make giveaways of a new game because I think they tend to just damage the value of your game on those first critical days but I would be willing to make a giveaway of an older game because those are already past their moment IF (and only if) this could help to promote the new game.

What do you think?

IMO it depends on relation of older game with new game. If both games are in same genre, people playing older game could be motivated to buy the new game if they enjoy the former. But if they are in different genre, I'm not sure.

I do not really think they damage the value of the game, unless you have a big audience already.

The point of Giveaways, in my opinion, is to get extra users to play your game and talk about it so that it reaches to many people which might purchase your game; or if you have a multiplayer functionality and it tends to lack players (especially bad if it's a mostly online game) then the giveaways will fill the servers at least temporarily.
