Okay, before anybody tells me I'm crazy or "overreaching" for even pitching something ambitious, I literally had a dream about this, and am pretty much just writing it down so I won't forget it. As such, this is going to be kind of stream of consciousness. But that said, any constructive feedback is well appreciated.

  • It's called "Exiles" (as in, that's what it was called in my dream. I know there's already a comic by that name).
  • Mirror's Edge meets Infamous. The reason they're called "Exiles" is because most live in an internment camp. The rest work for the government, capturing escapees and resistance fighters. There will be extensive character customization (although I struggle to see the point of customizing appearance in a first-person game). At the beginning of the game you'll choose your appearance and power set. Powers will be extensively upgradable (I'm thinking about the original Deus Ex for inspiration).
  • The game begins with the player given a day pass into the city to go and take a test that all young Exiles take to see if they're suited for government work (kind of Divergent/Harry Potter sorting hat style). You begin the game flying/running through the city and having fun with your powers on your way to the test (this was the part in my dream)
  • The player eventually chooses between two factions, the government (the "good" guys), and a "resistance" that fights against the governments marginalization and oppression, but are extremists (Magneto-style. These are the "bad" guys). Think X-Men with EXTENSIVE shades of grey.

That's all I got so far. Before you guys start giving me crap about this, think about something: how many people were on the team that made Deus Ex, or the first Doom? What if ModDB had existed then? Would those guys had gotten laughed off the face of the earth for their ambitions? What's more, how many free and inexpensive user-friendly toolsets are out there for aspiring developers (Unity, UE4)? I genuinely believe that if I can get 10-20 talented and dedicated people together, we could potentially make this idea work. So whaddya think?

Another idea: The city would be divided into smallish "districts" that you would progress through, mirroring the hub worlds in Deus Ex. This would also cut down on the workload of creating a full open world. The game could also be episodic (Telltale-style) w/ one hub per episode.

This sounds like an ingenious idea. I would love a first person superhero game!

Especially if it was a superhero like Spider-Man
