This update was a huge overhaul of both the client and server that has greatly optimized everything. You should notice a large increase in frame rate on the client too!
This was a lot of work, but it was all worth it. A great deal of code was optimized on both the client and sever for this update. Of course there is too much done to explain all the optimizations that were done, but I will list the main points below.
General Client Optimizations:
- LARGE frame rate increase! You should notice the game runs much faster in general. My personal experiences have shown an increase frame rate around 15-20% minimum!
- Faster response times for actions. The networking packet system has gotten a complete overhaul. Packets are now more compact, organized and sent/received much more efficiently between client and server. You should notice actions like searching an area for items, crafting, and the loading of objects into the world will be considerably faster!
General Server Optimizations:
- Animal AI and movement code has been reworked so that animals that are being interacted with (combat, running away, etc...) are put in a higher priority queue. So combat responses are computed much faster.
- Database access on the server has been greatly reduced. This alone greatly increases the performance of the server, which means the response time between client and server is vastly improved.
I will talk about this very soon. But this update marks the end of yet another major development milestone in the game! In general, the next development milestone is to start performing final tests on the game. Again, I will go into more detail on this soon.
