Unreal Tournament 3 update to include Steamworks functionality and more.

Posted by on

A press release issued over Steam revealed that Epic's Unreal Tournament 3 would be receiving a 'massive update' that would see a whole host of improvements and new features added. Most surprising is the decision to incorporate Steamworks functionality and adding over 50 achievements. Can this mean possible Steamworks integration for UT3 mods, one can only hope. If you've already purchased UT3, you can use your retail serial to activate it and have it added to your Steam catalogue. Here's the press release in full:

Steampowered.com wrote:

In preparation for the massive update coming for Unreal Tournament 3, those who own a retail copy may now register it with Steam, free of charge.

The latest installment in the legendary online action series from Epic will be updated automatically via Steam and introduce support for Steamworks Achievements (with over 50 Achievements), plus a host of new features and enhancements in AI, Server Browsing, Demo Recording, Mod Support, and more.

To register your retail copy on Steam, simply click the main menu option 'Games' and select 'Activate a product on Steam' from within the Steam client.

GameSpy is No way "******". Look at BattleField, FEAR or Serious Sam(1).
Its the EPIC GAMES who made ****** server browser which looks like console ripoff.

Actually, there are BETTER mods.
Though, for UT2004. Look KILLING FLOOR.
Best UT2k4 and best coop zombie MOD ever.(L4D is not a mod)

My fav UT2K4 mods by FAR are Alien Swarm and Killing Floor. Red orcastra, tactical ops crossfire, and frag ops all get up in my top 5 with them though. For those who don't know ALien Swarm, think shadow grounds, but far more fun and 4 player coop. It looks professional. Got 4th place in final phase of MSUC. behind red orcastra and frag ops and IDK the third place. Unreal 3 has alot of good mods out now but most are early beta or alpha but still a blast to play. Personally I won't be registering mine with steam because I hate steam and all it stands for (That's just me I guess) and have been a UT fan since the beginning of time. I like being able to run it without opening 3rd party programs and without having to have those programs constantly running in the background unless I choose to have them as so.

but then wouldn't that mean you won't be able to play online anymore because steam is a bitch for having latest versions when you play online. Maybe they will release non-steam patches still... dunno though.

Steam doesn't have to be "constantly running in the background " - just when you play games. Plus, rest assured, if it wasn't for steam, we - PC Gamers would be in a far worse position than we are now.

Once you try it, you'll never go back.

You don't necessarily have to re-download via steam. You can copy and paste all files from your Program Files into your Steamapps/common folder after you let the download go over 2%. Check this link below for the complete "How To" ;)

I HOPE it at least uses steam's server system. The Server Browser Interface is so, so, bad. And there's so few servers. But the other UT's from what I've seen are no different...
