Post news Report RSS Skipping Stones - Generative Musical Poetry

Hey there! Find out a little bit about Skipping Stones and check out some cool generative sounds.

Skipping Stones is a game I set out to make a few months ago with some talented friends. Originally I just wanted to make a very simple - throw stones in the water - game to experiment. That ended up growing into this small sound game, where you can listen to these melancholy and ambient tones generated by your skips, as well as explore an environment that tells a story through the soundscape and visuals. You can also unlock text and poetry as you play which helps you piece together the narrative of this lost forgotten lake. There aren't any real goals in the game, you explore, listen, and play.

Here's an example of what skipping stones sounds like: Morning, By the Pier

There are over 10 sets of different tones and hundreds of possible combinations depending on where/when you skip. We're also working on a "musical weather" system that includes rain and wind as well as a few other things you might uncover by exploring. I'll be putting up a video of some proper stone skipping pretty soon!

Sold. I'll be keeping myself busy with Proteus until this hits. Red Rover sounds amazing also. Seriously, this is the kind of stuff video games should have been doing long long ago.
