Greetings, and an introduction to the Killing Floor Vehicle Mod.

Posted by on

Greetings to all at ModDB and welcome to the Killing Floor Vehicle Mod; an expansion game type for the hit game Killing Floor.

Killing Floor
Killing Floor is a cooperative waved based fps that pits you against hordes of incoming zombie like clones (Zeds). Your goal is to eliminate wave after wave of ever increasingly challenging specimens until you take on a final boss, the Patriarch.

Killing Floor Vehicle Mod
The Killing Floor Vehicle Mod is an expansion game type that enhances the standard Killing Floor game play elements by adding a range of quality made and highly realistic vehicles that act as both your weapon and mode of transport. As part of the Zed clean up crew you will have a sophisticated and fun set of features at your disposal to aid you in your ultimate goal of ridding humanity of the horde.

The vehicles

Here is a list of some of the highlights already implemented:

  • Multiple vehicles with specific strengths and weaknesses relative to their build
  • 1st person and 3rd person display for inside and outside vehicle visuals
  • A 'drag frag' system that rewards high speed collisions and penalises slow crawls
  • Fuel cans that can be purchased or possibly looted for refuelling and barbecuing
  • A mechanic's welding tool for garage repairs
  • Highly responsive braking for rapid spinning turns
  • Vehicle share with passenger seating
  • Land based and airbourne methods of transportation
  • Mounted user controlled vehicle weapons
  • Vehicle damage and destruction relative to collisions and attacks
  • Automatic or manual vehicle respawn features can be customised on a map per map basis
  • An abundance of custom and stock maps; both conversions and mod specific
  • Completely integrated with the Killing Floor SDK for community mapping
mini in action

The Killing Floor Vehicle mod has been patiently and at times painstakingly modelled, textured, coded, and compiled by moddb user Braindead with a little support here and there from arramus.

With a strong QA focus you can be assured that the first release of the Killing Floor Vehicle Mod will be a most pleasant and enjoyable gaming experience. Keep tracking this mod and spreading the word as an initial Beta release is imminent.

I can imagine escape maps being made for this type of mod (if that's even possible.)

So many great possibilities with this. I look forward to this mod.

Keep up the hard work.

One super long map where the trader does not open randomly and has a set part where it opens. Its like a long highway with rest stops every 2nd or 3rd stop is blocked so you have to wait for the round to be over and you can stop at a trader every rest stop but every now and then its blocked so you are forced to wait and cant just rush by all the specimens. I think that would be cool

Cool idea.

Here's a similar one I've been considering. A Survivor's mode where you have to protect survivors from being eaten. The survivors will be sitting in the back of the vehicles. If the vehicle is destroyed then so are the survivors.

The map is split into linear sequential zones and your goal is to manually unweld an access point to the next zone and escort the survivors through.

At each zone, the zeds are depleting your vehicles/survivor stock and the race is on to reach a final end zone before all the survivors are eaten.

Sooooo, you'll have to keep the vehicles safe to ensure the survivors aren't eaten but also balance their use as weapons. Quite a feat over a few stages. At the same time you'll have to be manually unwelding entry points while keeping check on your cargo as well as yourself.

This offers a number of objectives:

1. Protect the survivors.
2. Use your vehicles wisely and don't let them get destroyed.
3. Unweld stage points.
4. Reach an ultimate end zone with some survivor stock.
5. Protect yourself.

Keeping the survivors in the vehicles ensures they won't wander off and makes sure you are babysitting them at each and every step.

that's cool, wonder if it requires all new maps and objectives, though.

Hey SinKing, there will be a mix of stock maps customised for the mod and some community made maps both customised and mod specific. The maps can be compressed and download directly from the servers into cache folders but we'll bundle them up as well so they can be played in Solo. The objective in the first release will be the same with wave based fragging in that special KF Vehicle way with all the extras :) We'll see where things go after that.

Ooo ya, that's BlackCheetah's UT mod. A lot of fun and very inspirational. The buggy really gets some air time off the sand dunes.

Will the vehicles be an addition to the existing fps gameplay, or will we be restricted to driving only? It would be cool to jump out of the vehicles, with guns blazing! :)

Hell ya, don't worry about that. You'll spawn with dual pistols to give you a fighting chance to get to a vehicle. As you drive around your fuel will deplete and if you hit empty the vehicle will stop and you'll be left with the armaments you're carrying. In addition, if you've got a fuel can equipped to fill up your vehicle then you can pour some on the ground and ignite it. This will burn anything that crosses its' path.

When you complete a wave you can go to the trader to purchase your weapons and ammo as normal and decide whether to get back in your vehicle or try some on foot.

Here's a little tidbit. Work in a team of two with one driving the forklift and the other standing on the raised front forks. You'll have a better range and view from up there of approaching Zeds and provide more protection for a vehicle the Zeds pick off with ease.

That's more than I could ever ask for! If you created this page and said you were "planning" to do it I would not believe it coming to a success. But here you are, saying that most of that has already been implemented!

To see that there's a lot of stuff you've already implemented, that's pretty cool. I'd love to see this in action.

There's a sample of videos in the video area showing the Forklift, lorry, heli, and mini. We'll have to capture footage of a full server load of players next :)

Great work! Now I can only dream of a huge campaign mod where you have to travel across England, choosing between different routes, traversing huge maps with cars and gathering supplies. Oh well...it will probably never happen but I can dream right>?

You sure can...and I'd like to buddy up on a motorcycle with a sidecar passenger wielding a mounted machine gun for such an adventure.
