There will be 7 weapons in game, but you can only use 4 during one playtrough.
1st slot - always a revolver
2nd slot - shotgun or flamethrower
3rd slot - submachine gun or laser pistol
4th slot - mortir or cannon
All weapons have upgrades and mods. For example, shotgun can shoot lightning, smg can give ammo on jumps, revolver heal if you hit enemies without misses 7 times in a row.
