Post news RSS Diaspora withdraws from Mod of the Year 2008

A short explanation for why the team don't want to compete this year.

Posted by on

After much discussion the Diaspora team has decided that we should withdraw from the Mod of the Year 2008 competition. Last year, Beyond the Red Line won the MotY best Indie game section. Following the break up of the BtRL team many of the assets which helped win that award were transferred to Diaspora. Since then the team has made significant progress but it is still a fact that much of what you have seen from the Diaspora team are the exact same models that won BtRL the prize last year.

We can't expect the fans to keep track of who made what and vote accordingly so, for this reason, Diaspora would rather delay entry to the competition until we have released a significant body of work under our own name. We'd rather win on our own merit than on a mixture of our own work and nostalgia for how great BtRL looked.

Secondly since we can't win (Despite the name change we are far too close to last year's winner to not get disqualified if we make it through the heats anyway), we don't want to draw votes away from those who can. There are a lot of promising FS2_Open engine games that we'd like to see win if we can 't.

We'd like to thank those who were quick off the mark and have already voted for us and to wish luck to those who are still competing. The team look forward to seeing you all for Mod of the Year 2009!

(BTW, apparently the vote for us button can't be removed so we're stuck with it for now!)
