I am a fan of Total Annihilation since the beginning. I am also a developer so I decided to create a 3D RTS engine compatible with Total Annihilation over 7 years ago : TA3D. I like strategy games (you probably guessed it already) as well as FPS :D. Even if I am a gamer I am a convinced Linux user, proof that you can play with Linux :P. I am also interested in GPGPU (mostly OpenCL).

We were currently fixing lots of bugs, and focusing on making the game working on all supported platforms (Linux, OS X and windows). Optimization will come soon :)

The engine is designed to run on a large range of hardware, so playing with settings can really change the way the game looks. It is possible to make it look exactly like Total Annihilation (using the orthographic camera), you can even run it on a EEEPC :) but if you have a high-end war-machine you can play with all settings to maximum :D (shadows, particles, GPU simulated water, etc...).

Also Spring and TA3D don't have exactly the same goal, so at the end it's normal they don't look the same.

compatibility with TA mods, Linux based (of course there are ports for windows and MacOS) so it ensures it works on Linux (I never managed to get spring working correctly), hardware requirements are lower, we aren't making only the engine :) (no copyright problems with home made content :D) so once finished it should be totally free and won't rely on TA resources any more unlike Spring with Total Annihilation based mods.

Of course TA3D and Spring look very similar because both are RTS engines which started using Total Annihilation data but in the details the two engines are very different and some people prefer Spring over TA3D while some others prefer TA3D over Spring ...
