An amazing idea I had for your mod.
The lights go out in a cave and you need to restart the generator for them to cross a bridge that they need full light to go across safely.
Have a cave on the way to the generator that is completely bare and dark with unpowered lights but the player can still see just barely.
Have a lot of stone gargoyles, have them up high so the player does not consider them a threat. When they turn on the generator a light goes on which makes a gargoyle comes to life and attacks the player. The player then goes back into the cave and finds all the lights on.
