I think usage of wood in weapons is not ''dwarfish''. You know they are miners and smiths and living inside mountains.

Why this cool mechanic dwarven arrow rifle is not in the movie? Why?
Then I got to thinking maybe ironhill dwarves killed war trolls with this weapons and maybe we can see it in extended scenes.
