There's actually a way to fix this (windows):

1. Make a folder called cfg

2. In that folder create a text document (notepad should work fine) and type "ai_norebuildgraph 1"

3. Save the text document in that cfg folder as "autoexec.cfg" (make sure its saved as "all files")

4. Copy that folder and paste it into every mmod folder (HL2, HL2 update, Lost coast, etc.)

5. Start the game and saves shouldn't disable A.I. anymore

In highway 17, when I got to the part where you have to go under the bridge I died as soon as I entered through the door.
