A child growing up to become a man| Runs into battle, always a plan| And he feels he's losing his mind| Every fight demands another, gear to grind| It all seems insane, a blitz of a fight| As an enemy is conquered, he proves his might He lays upon a hill of those shot and killed| Some pass it off, some say he is skilled| He wipes the sweat off his brow, the blood off his blade| Time has passed and its been another day| As he feels he is stronger, the journey is not at end| He loads a gun and rushes in, patience low with wounds to mend| As dusk turns to dawn he stops to rest| Yet always more to do, to win, to beat and best| His rest is short and his return is swift| A guardian back to squander his gifts|

The launch menu is exclusive DeusExe is why. It uses launch by hanfling, because it has a better history of running with large mods. That being said, if you run the default executable at least once (to generate a proper ini from the default, which DeusExe cannot do on its own), you can replace VMDSim.Exe with a renamed DeusExe and launch it from that instead.

Mouse acceleration fix is queued up to be included in phase 2's release, because man that crap is not consistent between machines and settings.

Hanfling also made an edited DLL for it you can find here:
Coding.hanfling.de

You'll install that to DeusEx\System directory, and it should work for VMD. HUD scaling is otherwise controlled by resolution in fullscreen gameplay. UI scaling is not consistent based on resolution, though, some higher resos (such as 1920x1080) have abnormally large HUD due to the math involved with vanilla UI scaling. Stepping down to 1600x900 seems to work well for me.

Boom, baby. Solving some huge bugs at long last. I wanted to push this version because it has 2 ones that've been a long time coming.

1.75e notes:
-Fixed MJ12 and MIB/WIB forces fighting inside versalife, due to MIB/WIB not respecting security personnel
-Add a fix for the highly elusive and very confusing issue with Hotel Carone computer crashes. As an odd side-effect, for exactly 1 frame (at up to 120 FPS) the header on camaras you're switching to will display the wrong text. This entire mess was caused by extremely unconventionaly and hacky code on Hotel Carone's part
-Fixed a bug with LDDP and conversation triggers. While harmless in 1.75, it actually produces a noteworthy bug in Phase 2.
-Solved the long-standing and inconsistent bug with special options not appearing during hacking computers

Update 2, 4/2/24: Just finally fixed the Hotel Carone crash, after a 3 hour investigation and troubleshooting session. It should be out with 1.75e, along with a fix for some mod's computers not generating special options when hacked. And of course, 1.75 in general released a fix for Nihilum's health HUD, so we're in a great timeline now.

Alright, we're back with a hotfix. Anyways, I was really excited for this round of patching, because it even patches some issues that, as far as I know, no other mod has patched to date, such as grenade physics' 2 unique bugs.
1.75d notes:
-Included a missing localization file for 1.75c...

1.75c notes? More than 3x the size of the maximum character limit per comment, and pasting it here freezes my browser for like 30 seconds lol. Check your DeusEx\VMDSim\v175Changes.txt file for this one.

Bit an oopsie on this one. I'll be back with the full change log in a bit, but turns out I forgot to update the localization file... Guess that's what 10 months of rust will do. Good news is the author of my installer has been around the past while, so at least we have the FUNCTION of things shipping for now, and hopefully the language file to follow in 1.75d.

Hey. Wanted to check in again for the month of March. Unfortunately, I've ran into another set of 6 injuries this month, so it was very on/off days I could work. Some of them were insanely painful as well, limiting a lot of my activity, not only in PC time, but time awake vs time in bed and such.

Anyways, Gust Bow is coming along, and the initial draft of its animation is past the first hump (I expect a second), and is in a good space to work on. However, I'm still learning the new animation process, and I'm trying to do 1 frame a day, when I can. Sadly we're only up to 14 frames for this animation, which while certainly long, is not as far along as I hoped to be. Hope ya'll have a good march.

Hey. Popping back in to leave another mini update, once again not deserving of a full post. The biggest change this month was an update to my work schedule. I'm trying to do just a few minutes of work for Hatchet every day, on the primary objective. Starting small, getting the fire going again, since my tendency to think big requires a lot of mental bandwidth. Currently I've been messing around with and trying to animate the gustbow's last animation sequence. I got another 8 frames of animation done, which I'm really proud of, considering I had a major family emergency and 2 tendon injuries the past month. I was really, really hoping to have it done by the end of the month to show off, but turns out this sequence is pretty complex... Probably why I couldn't easily visualize it prior. Baby steps are better than no steps at all.

Also optimized some code related to how the player hands work, and fixed a bug where tilt and recoil sequences could rarely break your view position entirely along the y axis.

Thank you, and hope you're having a good 2024.

To my knowledge, this bug is gone as of Phase 1.75, but I suppose I can't account for all possibilities. I know the DXT community update had an installer out a while back with a bad color scheme name, though.

1.75b:
-Added prospective fix for when a lock or hackable device is less than 1% strength (Anything that will display as 0% on the frob display and cause confusion). You might conceivably receive a freebie and spend 1 less tool or pick than expected. Rejoice.
-Activating a 2nd medigel while the first is still active will instantly apply all owed healing, and properly set up a new medigel.
-Added a secondary, prospective fix for riot cops and UNATCO in-fighting.
-Added a prospective fix for 03_NYC_Hangar aggro from UNATCO boys
-Added a prospective fix for 02_NYC_BatteryPark aggro from UNATCO boys and also anna, I guess.
-Sword brand sword now no longer has 20% less range than a baton, but rather 20% more than it, on par with the DTS
-Fixed the "ROFL" crate in 04_NSFHQ, which was actually 2 crates, but if both of them were swapped out on Condemned (or other loot deletion settings), it'd cause the TNT crate above them to explode. Now, both will always be there
-Fixed ammos with 0 ammo left being dropped as items in M05. Now the idea of the ammo type will be left on your person. Why not?
-Added a prospective fix for MEGH somehow dying and not being cleaned up before the next map
-Fixed grenades and shurikens allowing you to gain 1 ammo even if you didn't have the base item to add the ammo stack to. This lead to ammo exploits and confusing player feedback
-Fixed spy drone being deactivated by synthetic heart. Unfortunately, it still cannot be boosted
-Fixed a glitch with the sawed off shotgun's hidden form
-Playing pool now reduces stress
-Fixed DX Nihilum training and epilogue not resetting the player's skill info
-Ported improved chair collision properties, courtesy of the DX Rando gang
-Updated PDF to stop falsely saying that commandos can be eyeshot to bypass their armor
-Updated PDF to list that extremely high base damage can pierce some armor types
-Fixed crafting being marked as completable if the player is dead or interpolating
-Fixed crafting tiles not highlighting their left portion, for medical or mechanical
-Fixed old kludge code messing up cinematic JCs from playing audio while female
-Fixed cigarettes machine not having an assigned dispensing message, if the user had no backup INT file (it was erased)
-You can no longer advance crafting while carrying a decoration
-Fixed roll cooldown not ticking down in conversations, causing a desync between status effect and actual timer
-Fixed buying 2 3006 ammo from bum in m03 (plus other possible situations) not giving 2 mags of ammo, but instead 1
-Fixed dead bodies with only non-credits and non-keys pickups on them not realizing you were finding stuff on them
-Fixed some old lingering code that was creating inconsistent max copies for tactical gear
-Fixed DX Rando sometimes creating infinite duration tactical gear
-Updated some info in regard to a change in installer specifics

Okay, interesting... You might be using AL audio instead of Galaxy audio, so you'll want to change your audio device if possible to try and fix this. Go to your deus ex install location, and then to your DeusEx\System directory. Find VMDSim.ini file, and open it. Under the [Engine.Engine] header edit "AudioDevice" to say "Galaxy.GalaxyAudioSubsystem" after the = sign, but without the quotes, then save it. Hopefully that solves your issue with audio. If this doesn't fix it, let me know. It might also be related to conversation packages.

EDIT: Are you trying to play as female JC? And if so, did you choose the LDDP option? You'll need LDDP conversations for female JC to play audio, or else it'll use a fallback 0 volume on male JC voice lines.

Okay. I understand. Hmm, make sure you change your graphics device. Pick from lots of them until brightness seems to improve on one. From the main menu: Settings > Display > Rendering Device (3rd option on list). Make sure to click the "show all devices" bubble as well. After restarting it may open vanilla and not VMD, so you may have to close and re open after restarting as well. I'd recommend sticking to direct X if possible, as those tend to work best on average, but if those fail you, keep messing around until you find one that works.

New Vision is just a texture pack option. You should just need to install the textures to a proper directory, then modify the paths in the VMDSim.ini to include NewVision\Textures as a potential directory. Revision's INI may be used as an example, if you want to know what the "paths" heading might look like with this. If your game is dark, it may be because you're playing windowed with d3d9. Try out d3d10 or doing fullscreen with d3d9.

Thanks for letting me know. I don't have any data on GOG copies or how the installer works (or apparently, doesn't) with them. You can manually unzip the mod (as it is a 7zip archive) and install the files yourself in case of emergency. Inside there should be a "system" folder, which you should copy the contents of into your DeusEx\System directory. There should also be a VMDSim or Mods/VMDSim (I forget) folder. Copy and paste into your C:\DeusEx directory. After that, VMDSim.exe in your DeusEx\System should be fine to make a shortcut of with no other tweaks made. If you run into the black menu bug, be sure to read the post on that.

Welp. Did at least a run every day for 12 days straight, and managed to beat Condemned as a near-complete pacifist run. There's a couple of nasty surprises in there for those trying to go pure pacifism or pure stealth, but overall it went well and was capable of being done. Now, if anyone manages to beat it going loud as the preferred, the furthest I ever made it was M04. I might be able to turn some of my knowledge around to play it loud. I dunno. Time will tell.

Interesting. Did you do manual or automatic install? This is usually because the DXOGG bundled was not loaded in the proper order. There should be a DXOGG.ddl bundled with the DeusEx\System installed files, and a DXOGG.u bundled with the DeusEx\VMDSim\System directory. Ensure both exist, and that you are using the intended EXE and INI for VMDSim.

Welp. It's BASICALLY empty, is what it comes down to. Did you override with kentie's before running the mod for the first time? Also, are you on linux? Both of these can produce these errors in the past. Either way, it seems to have generated PART of a default user ini when in doubt.

Solution is though: Copy all the contents from VMDSimDefUser.ini with Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C, delete everything in your VMDSimUser.ini, then paste the copied contents into your VMDSimUser.ini and save the file. Then start the game again.

Ah. Your user INI isn't loading, and you have no player class, so it's borking everything. Can you confirm the existence of a VMDSimUser.ini in your DeusEx\System? And confirm it's not blank?

Interesting. Do sounds play when you push Escape to open/close the menu? It could be an issue of missing color scheme for the UI, which is an ugly error, but has been seen before when updating from P1 to P1.5. Feel free to come over to the discord for VMD and we can talk about it more, or I can reply here, but it'll be slower. I don't want to intrude, though.

Yup. It was one of the first mods to adopt it, as of Phase 1.5. VMD adds much more character customization, so it's a good way to accessorize a female JC, in fact. Lay D Denton presence is autodetected in VMD, so make sure you have it installed. IIRC, our latest installer actually allows you to install LDDP 1.1 in tandem, but it may be an outdated version by this point, so I'd encourage you to install the real thing.
