This is an unfinished demo version of 'Another Place'

I hope this demonstrates the 'feel' of the game as well as the atmosphere.
The more you play, the more you will be engaged. This goes all the way to the weather tower. Find some keys, collect the Fire item, and disable the first boss!

You can play with an Xbox controller or your keyboard.

Another Place is a video game where players control a young lad on a strange quest.

Cast into a unique and unknown world, the player is presented with challenges not generally seen in platform games.
The soundtrack provides an intense atmosphere which helps to engage the player in a 2D, minimalistic pixel presentation.

Drowning, getting eaten, burning and falling to your death are just some dangers to avoid.

You collect a Firestarter, a Bomb, a Snorkel, and a Magic Ring which allows you to jump from any height!

There are 9 keys to find and 9 doors to unlock. 4 bosses dwell in a range of locations such as the slaughter house, the weather tower, the big fish and the city. There is also the famed town of Underdouge, where people are hungry and must be fed!

It's a Saturday, 03/04/2016

Hello everyone.

Main Goals of the Evening

- Place Keys/Doors throughout world.
- Create a solution to one of the 4 problems.



This is the first video game project I feel is right for release.

Because it's my first project, I'm not going to be very proficient in marketing or getting it out to the general public.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Today I'm working on the key system, I plan to utilize all keys. I'm going to make it as simple as possible, then after the keys and doors have been placed throughout the now fully open world, I'll focus more on the problems the player has to solve to get keys and items to progress.

As I said, the world is fully open with the player having the ability to go from one section to the other seamlessly. At the beginning, obviously the player will have to solve problems to progress and sometimes backtrack. However, once all keys and items have been collected the player is free to explore the large, unique world.

The art isn't AAA quality, but I have perfected the use of a palette to keep images coherent and technically sound.

My greatest talents are level design, narrative and audio design. This is clearly evident throughout the game.

I hope to keep the player engaged with the narrative as they would a book, giving you a simple image and allowing for your imagination to flourish alongside accompanying soundtrack and sfx.

Sidenote/ I can't stress enough how this game needs to be played in order for it to be appreciated. I'm yet to record any screen grabs that do it any real justice. I spent a lot of time making it feel like your controlling a pixel character in a strange pixel world. It's best played on headphones for full immersion. The world is meant to feel strange.


During livestream game test I discovered that the dog at the beginning of the game will not walk past you if you're in the way.
Will have to disable dog interaction at this point because the dog needs to enter the kenel in order for the teleporter to appear.

Hey everyone.

Last night I implemented the Spider Web that is destroyed by the Fire item and Boulders which are destroyed by the Bomb.

I implemented 4 keys/doors so far and created a lever item to turn off the machine which is manipulating the Mayor of Underdouge.

Tonight I plan on implementing more keys and doors throughout the world.
I'm also going to create another video presentation showcasing the games bosses.

It's a Monday morning, 3:16am 4/04/2016

Today I finished the instances of the first boss fight.

The player moves through a trigger and stops
A character is alerted and points at the player
Player is transported to boss level
Player must use the fire item to burn two ropes
After ropes are burned, a large television falls off the ceiling.
The television is shooting flames and the player must move it toward the boss.
The fire explodes the bosses head
The 4th key is dropped and the player is allowed to leave through a door.
Now the player can get into the Weather Tower.

It's a very simple presentation showing only the events. The art and sound and general level layout has not been finished and in some cases even started. This will all be revised for the final release.
