As a veteran Total War player since the days of the first Shogun edition, I have always been interested in these games. After Medieval II Total War Kingdoms, I became less pleased with the series and especially with the engine they use. Thus I started playing mods for MTW2 like Stainless Steel, Broken Crescent and TATW. As a long time Tolkien fan from way before the first movie appeared, this was undoubtedly the game for me. After a while I discovered the MOS submod for TATW and I liked it a lot. Of course this meant I had to visit the TWcenter on a regular basis as this was where all things MOS could be found. I since then became a Citizen there and got involved in modding myself. I am presently a member of the the Reunited Kingdom mod for MOS team (no longer active), The current MOS team and the team that is developing the DCI:Last Aliance mod. All of these are submods for TATW.

Use some decent archers, or even better, a few horse archers units.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I really have no idea what could cause this.

Well, this is very likely caused by something going wrong when you installed the mod. I would advice installing the mod again. Make sure you have a working, unaltered Third_Age_3 before installing DCI:LA and have a good look at the install instructions, which can be found in the articles section above.
The install stopping early is something I had not seen mentioned before, but I don't see every post of course.

The short answer is no.

DCI:LA and divide and conquer are both submods for Third Age Total war. However, since DAC has integrated TATW in their install file, you may not be aware of that.

Thanks. We stopped developing MOS after finishing version 1.7 though and AFAIK I'm the only member that is still somewhat active. This fix and the new installer are largely the result of somebody offering to make a new installer and in case of the Creatures fix it's the result of working on the DCI:LA mod. I am an active member of that mod and when we finally got a creatures fix made for it, it was a relatively simple exercise to adjust it for use in MOS.

I don't expect anything else to be added, or altered in MOS for the foreseeable future, especially not regarding something as difficult as the AI.

The install instructions are in the description. But I will paste them here for you

Install instructions:

1) Download the patch from the link here or alternatively from this TWC LINK or you can download it from MEGA HERE.
2) Optional: Make a backup of the 'Animations' folder and 'descr_mount.txt' file. They are both located in the 'Data' folder. If something goes wrong overwrite the folders with the backup ones.
3) Unzip the patch file in your main MOS folder, accept overwrite files when asked. If you are not asked to overwrite files, you have unzipped the patch in the wrong folder.
4) Start the mod, play with some creatures. It should not be necessary to run the 'Cleaner.bat' file, but it shouldn't do any harm either.

Thank you for your feedback. This is a bit short on info though, so if you could elaborate a bit on what is happening precisely, that would be much appreciated

This is not normal. Most likely cause is that you somehow messed up the install. First thing to try is to install it again, playing close attention to the install instructions. Make it a clean install, remove the non functioning one first.

We are not sure yet. Could be a particular unit, the bai switcher and probably a lot of other things.

The log can be useful, but it rarely helps solving a problem. Having a relevant savegame is usually far better. And when you have the save, you of course get the log for free when you start the game.

We looked at the save game and can confirm that it crashed. finding the cause and fixing it will probably take a decent amount of time.
Again, thanks for getting this issue to us.

Zipped will work fine.

There are a few ways you can do it (for free)

- Assuming you have a google drive, you could share the file and post the link here. That would enable us (and everybody else) to download the zip file (and only that).

- Make an account on a (free) hosting site. I use Mega.NZ, but there are more. You can upload your file and from there share it, again by providing the link you will get.

Thanks for taking the time and the effort for doing this. The log will probably be not very useful, but the save game should.

The 'logs' folder should be in same folder as your 'mods' folder.

Not entirely sure what you mean exactly with the log. There is of course the MTW2 logs folder where the game stores the latest log of the most recent play.
Besides that we actually don't have a a log, except the one we use in our development forum, but that is not public. We look at this place and on TWCenter for reported problems.

For your particular issue, it would probably be best to provide a link to a saved game taken before you have a crash, so we can have look at it.

Withwnar, who knows just about everything about this stuff, has given this reply in our (private) test forum:

'This sounds like the symptoms of a save game from before the traits file was modified. If you did apply the patch since starting that campaign AND the patch added or removed any traits then that would be the reason.'

Edit: Seems Louis was answering this at almost the same time as me. We can't see that, so it will happen sometimes.

There is no official third age total 4.0. What you probably refer to is a submod with a name that is a bit confusing. A pretty decent mod though.
And no, this will not work.

I can honestly say that I have not seen a report about an issue with part two of the installer before you mentioned it here. Most likely something went wrong with your install, or less likely but still possible, with your download of part 2.

It's probably best to install everything again and perhaps download part two again also
Start with installing TATW, use the installer or my zip file to do this They are both linked in the 'DCI: Last Alliance Public Beta Requirements:' section here. If you use the installer, make sure the 'configuration.cfg' is renamed to TATW.cfg. Either by doing it manually or by using the fix. If you use my zip install file, the cfg file will be named TATW.cfg by default. After that, check if your TATW install works.

After that, use the DCI:LA installer again. Always allow overwriting of files when asked.

Edit: I see Louis and I were both busy answering you at about the same time.

There is some good info in his post that may help you out also.

No Discord, don't think anybody in the team likes it much, or has the time to manage that.
So yes, we 'work' here and on TWcenter of course, where the team worked on the mod for eight years before releasing the Beta.

There are plenty of mods that already use the LOTR soundtrack, we think it's nice to have something different.

Good to hear you like the mod!

Good to hear you like it so far,

For now we are just reading from the comments, here and on Total War Center. We might start a forum on TWC at some time, when we are able to manage it.

Galu has certainly helped us advertising the release of DCI:LA. It's good to see mod teams helping each other where possible. I think it will benefit all mods out there that there is some variety to keep things interesting.
Have fun playing a DCI:LA campaign when you can!

Nice work. People that watched this video should have no trouble installing DCI:LA. Not that it is very complicated, but for those who prefer video over text instructions, this is a welcome alternative.

Mordor crashes in game should be significantly less after you install the patch. However, it is not save game compatible!

If it is really rare, we probably won't look at it any time soon. If you happen to have a save game prior to such a crash which you can link to here, we would have a look a that though.

Thanks for the feedback.

We have released a patch which should at least significantly lower the crashes caused by Mordor units. Crashes with Goblin units in battles seen to occasionally cause crashes, but from what we have seen, not very often.

Dunland is not a faction in DCI:LA. I suspect you mean the 'Wild men of Enedwaith'. Yours would be the first report that I know of about crashes when battling them.

I'm not quite sure what you mean with the crashes though. Does it only happen just before the battle should start, or in actual battle itself, or both?

Any host site would do, Mega, Mediafire for instance, you would have to make an account though. Dropbox is another option and you could also use your Google drive to share the file.

Thanks, it's good to hear you like the mod.

Could you elaborate a bit on the errors and crashes? Can't really tell what the errors are. And the crashes, do they happen in battle? I would be good to know what factions are involved and ideally which units.

Or do you have crashes on the campaign map, or during the turns perhaps?

It would be quite helpful if you could upload a saved game, ideally from the turn the crash happens.
We can then try to determine what goes wrong.

That would be a yes. But you still should get a message when a settlement can be updated.
Except for the update from village to town! That one never displays a message about upgrading.
