Let me point out that you can get C&Ds by every company that holds the rights for e.g. books, music, whatever.

We MERP Developers got a C&D by Warner Bros. which is the company that holds the rights on Tolkiens IP atm, it publishes films, games, fan products and much more.

Plus it is definitely not true that the technical problems and limitations of Skyrim (yeah they really suck) could have prevented us from doing MERP. We already had some workarounds planned.

It makes me even more sad to see that WB not only stopped MERP but also decided to develop another not lore friendly game that's not fitting in Middleearth at all.

Thanks for pushing us to 28k signatures! When all this started I said to the other teammembers that we're lucky when we get over 10k sigs. Reaching 28k sigs really shows that the stuff we do is not wasting our time. I would love to give you any news about our situation, but there is just nothing that is worth mentioning.

While the team is waiting for a reply of Warner Bros. I personally decided to keep modding on another project to practice and to don't get too rusty (nothing connected with LOTR but a self-imagined fantasy world of my own). If anyone is interested to help me with some quests or anything else, please send me a pm over this forum.

I still think that we're going to save MERP somehow- Keep believing in our project!

It's not killing only the fans but also us developers.
All we can do is waiting, negotiating with WB (what is slooow) and gain more signatures. How many are needed nobody can say, but the more people signing the best.

There'll be another game magazine talking about us and mmoxreviews! So there might come a few more ;) .

We're still trying to get in contact with WB. We'll post news as soon as possible, but atm we just have some stuff planned and need some final oks before starting. I promise that we'll publish news here as fast as we can.

At the moment we're preparing further steps for saving MERP.
You'll definitely get a update in the coming days concerning our situation and all the rest we can tell you.

Let me please express another time that I'm really proud of so many fans trying to help us! Sharing what happened to us with other people who can help is the only way MERP can be saved.

Short update on our situation:

Atm a few members are planning a real letter writing campaign (cause ignoring real letters by fans isn't as easy as deleting emails or forum posts). We plan to send many letters to WB and make them see how many people would even write a real letter for us!
Expect a update with a template letter (and maybe some further news soon!

I'm not sure if WB would be a real looser. I think they just have to see the advantages of dealing friendly with mod teams. We're not really interested in destroying their reputation. In fact we are even a bit like a good commercial for them. Mods like us (and every other LOTR project) keep people interested in LOTR, which is very good for them. Furthermore we're also not really destorying the sales of their products or anything else, as we're having completely other goals than they they have with their commercial games.

What Alasdair wants to say is that we're not using our youtube account to minimize the risk of appearing like a working mod team. If we'd upload a few ingame videos to push our campaign it could possibly be interpreted as we would still continue with MERP. We also have some more magazines who'd post some news about us, but we decided to halt it for the moment because we could still need it later on. (Don't fire out everything you have directly at the beginning). I hope you can understand us.
It's really amazing how many people are caring for this Project!

We currently can't develop the Mod because of the C&D letter (if we won't accept it we'd get probably sued by WB).
Letters will be send at the beginning of the the week to several important people. More news on that sooner or later in a official news post here at Moddb. ;)

If there will be ever some translations of MERP there will definitely be a german one ;). If I'm not wrong we're having around 7 german modders in our team (including me!).

Well that are good questions. The petition is mostly a sign for Warner Brothers, they need to see how many people are caring for us and how many can't understand what they are doing.
Why do we still have hope may some people ask? The petition might not be the solution for our problem, but at least it's giving us hope and maybe it's a small step on a long way before we maybe can continue with MERP. We're a non profit non commercial team that only develops Merp "for fun". And because of that we have a chance (maybe a small one) that we can convince Warner Brothers to let us continue. They are defintely not loosing anything if they let us continue, but they might loose a bit when they don't.

Yeah that's true, but MERP wouldn't be MERP if we couldn't share our vision of Middleearth with our fans.

Already tried to contact them, but one is not enough to convince them to talk about MERP. We need more people contacting them.
Try to send e-mails, tweets whatever to everyone who could help MERP.

We still have some ideas in mind how we can spread the news of our petition. However of course I'd be great if you help us a bit more with that. I'm already really amazed by the amount of people who helped us to get so many signments and so much support! Thank you so much!
