Nice, except the housing should be polymer. Still, it looks good.

That texture on the building is a carry-over from Vanilla BF2. It's not Saddam, and it's not Stalin, it's just a generic dictator.

It's not really better. Water, reflections and effects have been massively improved, but the more controversial changes were probably for balancing purposes.

UberWazuSoldier - - 37 comments @ Operation Dead Dawn Early May Update

And here's a mid-May update:

I rewrote the campaign code to be less hardcoded into the python, so that should offer us greater flexibility (rather than having to re-make it each map). We're still on Dalian, Ivan is finishing the cutscene.

So it might seem like we're making slow progress, but it's mostly been cleaning, optimising, and finishing little things. As a bonus, the mod should take a lot less toll on slower computers than it did before. Once this is out of the way, we'll be able to very quickly add other levels to the campaign mode, and maybe a few little surprises along the way. We want a proper campaign, unlike anything you've seen in Battlefield 2

Actually there's a fair few completely new soldier models (although they're mostly not in-game).

The reason the rest of them are based on existing BF2 models is twofold.

1. It's faster than reinventing the wheel.
2. It's more consistent with Battlefield 2. Since the mod is based on the same war as in BF2, it seems logical to have the same people.

If you're referring specifically to big and small bomb zombies - don't worry, they are being remodelled. All of the soldiers on the moddb page were made for the initial Halloween release, which meant we only had a month for two people to do all of this. Most of the zombie models have been re-made with wounds modelled in and such, but I haven't found the time to update it. Long story short, these were made in under a month, the new ones aren't.

Ahh yeah, you'll need the 1.5 patch. Well, if you just want to play by yourself then the 1.3 patch will let you play as well (and it's a smaller download by far).

Actually, the next version of OPDD will probably be 1.0 compatible because we're removing the (broken) vehicle drop buttons.

Oh shoot, looks like a severely underestimated the limit for poly count in BF2. The standard BF2 guns have 1k polies for the third person mesh, and 4k polies for the first person mesh. This gun has only 700 lol.

That's awesome, so I now have a lot more polygons I can play with... Although now I'm wondering how I managed to squeeze all this into 700 polygons... Witchcraft?

I've been keeping strictly to a limit of 1.5k polies (like Ivan said, it's for the low-end systems). I've seen some weapons for BF2 climb over the 8k poly mark, which isn't nice for most people.

Anyway, if you could give some specific things to improve then we can definitely go ahead and do it.

EDIT: Ahh, and I forgot to mention that I don't have shadows or any fancy rendering effects like a lot of mods like to do for their content screenshots.

If you still have this issue, you may have BF2 patched to a version before vehicle drops. I think they added that in 1.3? It should be able to run on 1.3 onwards (preferably 1.5, but I know how you feel about the download limits)

Can you confirm that you downloaded the 64bit version? Often that crash happens if the mod installed to the wrong place (so it loads a kind of broken BF2 when you open the shortcut).

Check in C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\ (if it exists), and copy that folder into the correct place. Anyway, just have a hunt around both your program files directories, and if you have a disk partition, check around your C and D drives.

Hehe, we're working on it. The BF2 engine is making it hard for us, but hopefully we'll find a fix for that.

I think the downside with the polling system is that it chooses the 100 most played mods, not the 100 best. Often they go hand-in-hand, but not always.

Eventually we'll add unique kit geometries for the ones with just a generic ammo box, but at the moment, enjoy the mystery =P

Good point, and one I could expand on it by lowering the distance that dynamic lights show (at the moment they're affecting things past the fog, which isn't really needed).

Karkand could still cause a moderate FPS drop since there's a tonne of lights, Dalian should be fine.

Yeah, that's a bit of a pain really. Even in the upcoming beta it's giving us a bit of grief, but not so badly. If you don't select "Zombie Attack" manually, it has the "Map Tour" mislabelled as "Zombie Attack" - which I'm sure will confuse a fair few people.

From what I read, DICE isn't unbundling the formats for the Frostbite 2 engine because it would be "too hard" for modders (I suspect it would be "too hard" for them to spend cash on a UI for their tools)

At the moment, BF2 has the biggest fan base of the Battlefield games on PC; just since 2142 only suits some people, 1942 is showing its age a lot, and Vietnam is very love-it-or-hate-it. I'm sure Modern Warfare 2's controversy will make BF:BC2 a huge hit, oh well, maybe BF2 will get a few players from people wanting more from the series as they cross over from CoD.

UberWazuSoldier - - 37 comments @ Need a Light?

Well, if dynamic lights are off it will be a tad harder in general unfortunately. On Dalian Plant the lighting isn't so crucial, but on Dark Kark you pretty much rely on all the light you can get. I could make a modified version of the visual filter so that it's less dark in case people don't have dynamic lighting. Oh well, we'll think of something!

Are you on a 32 or 64 bit system? The shortcuts wont point to the right path on a 64 bit system. Also, ensure that you have BF2 on the C:\ drive, if not, Roflbox will install there (probably)

Singleplayer will use the gpm_cq.py rather than gpm_coop.py - You could make it singleplayer-compatible by copying the gpm_coop.py and renaming it gpm_cq.py

I agree a day map would be quite cool, but we'd have to be clever with concealing zombies. Like Ivan said, a dense city and/or thick fog would work well.

(lol Ivan, "doesn't bling you")

I'd really like to do a day map with good fog though, something like Songhua Stalemate.

That's not a particularly helpful comment. Is there anything in particular wrong with them, or do you just have Tourette syndrome?

Now, I don't know how they solve problems in Germany (I have a basic idea from the exploits of a certain "Adolf Hitler") - but it most of the civilized world, killing someone isn't the best way to resolve a disagreement of concepts. I'm sorry, but you brought it up.

Now then, would you like to suggest something or would you prefer to continue to emulate Germany's infamous WW2 leader?
