Exactly! Like I said, there are so many examples of this.
There's a game called Banished, it's about village building and planning. Author released it year or two ago and gave up. But guys called BlackLiquid still keep working on their mod, which looks more like expansion or DLC - 'cause it changes literally everything and adds tons of new content, more than original game has.
I really hope TWOM could have something like this!
