Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\maps. Copy everything and paste it in the SMod Maps directory.

This is due to the Source engine's Steampipe update, making this mod unusable with the newest steam version. You need to use something like SMod Standalone or patch to an older version of HL2

I launch the game, I hear an error sound and then the game closes. I'm using SMod standalone, can someone help out?

Edit: I saw the error, it said something like "Missing file material/console/background01.vtf"

try GZDoom it works fine and smooth for me on there

I personally recommend GZDoom. Its a great updated version of the ZDoom source port, and its one of the most popular with Zandronum

or atleast make the flies quieter
