Hello! My name's Mark, and I think the indie scene is really cool. And I'm NOT just saying that because I'm on indieDB--I REALLY DO THINK IT. Anyway, I'm actually trying to make a game of my own called Spacecraft, where you build a ship, assemble a crew and explore space (pretty standard, really), but I think that it could be cool too. I find a lot of stuff on here pretty inspiring, I suppose because it's good. So keep it up!

Hey, cheers for the comment! I've been distracted the past couple of months with other stuff and very little progress has been made since that video, but I'm keen to get more done.

A little test/demo is the priority as I'd like to try my luck with a kickstarter, which would mean I could develop this full time, and something playable could help sell it.

Anyway, thanks again--it's really encouraging to know that people are interested!

I never really considered this as being a multiplayer game, since it would have to be turn-based, but if this is something that appeals to people I'll look into it.

I'm afraid not. A multiplayer ship vs. ship battle could be fun, I think, but my focus is on single player.

Yeah, a mac version should be do-able, since I'm coding in Java/LWJGL (what? Notch did it. It's fine...). The only reason I haven't listed Mac as a supported platform is that I don't currently have one handy to test on. But I don't foresee any problems with releasing for Mac.

Hey, cheers for the comment. Yes, the perspective is something I've thought about... when I started, I'd recently played a game on IndieDB called "Through" which I loved the look of (and it's a cool game, check it out), so I mimicked the style. But of course it does look a bit weird when stuff rotates around. I'm not sure what I'll do about it yet--I might try having the entities orient themselves to the camera, or experiment with having everything be slightly at an angle (as you suggest). For the time being I'll probably leave it as is though and worry about gameplay and all that.

But thanks, it's helpful to know that people find that a bit jarring.

Hello!

I've been developing this game on and off for the past year. It's been very slow going, but recently I've been much more excited about it and am keen to get stuck in. Whilst I don't have tons of cool stuff to show just yet, I'm at a point where there's a fair bit of infrastructure in place and a little bit more work will yield more noticeable results. My current aim is to soon have a little ship-to-ship battle scenario which I can upload and YOU can play.

Anyway, I wanted to upload what I've got so far to see what people think. My dream (like so many before me) is to quit my crappy code-monkey job and develop games full time, but I need to gauge how in-tune I am with gamers' tastes and see whether there's a market for what I'm doing. Obviously I think this game could be good, but what do I know, really? I mean really? Some stuff, of course--it's unavoidable--but not everything. So please, feel free to let me know what you think of the idea, the art (is it "retro" or "crap"? It's hard to tell sometimes) and old-style turn-based games in general.

Cheers (and if you read all of that, congrats)!
